Little Black Dresses & More at Kelly Rowland Album Release

Last night at the Standard Hotel, Kelly Rowland celebrated her album release for her newly released project Here I Am.  Kelly and her Destiny’s Child former bandmates Beyonce and Michelle Williams showed up decked in little black outfits for the Moet-sponsored event. Kelly wore a Cushnie et Ochs Fall 2011 cutout dress with metallic platforms.

Queen Bey was in attendance as well in a belted Lanvin jumper.
Michelle Williams went a little more conservative in a tailored v-neck little black dress with Louboutin studded heels.
Overall, Kelly Rowland has my vote for best dressed. She looked stunning!
Her makeup was gorge as well! Love the blue liner under the eye, it gives her look such a nice pop of color.
It-girl Tika Sumpter was in the building as well, breaking away from the “little black dress” mold in a firey hot pink Myne LA dress!
Which look was your fave? Soundoff below!

Cover Girls: Kelly Rowland for VIBE Magazine

Kelly Rowland bares all on the cover of the latest VIBE August/September 2011 issue. In the Juice issue, Kelly dishes on her new album in stores now entitled Here I Am, and her sexier side. Here’s a snippet of what she told VIBE:

Speaking of this road we’re going on… Let’s talk about the song “Motivation.” I have to admit, the song went completely over my head. I thought you were talking about working out.
[Laughs] No, honey.

When you heard the song, did you think, This may be too racy for my image?
Not at all. Every woman knows what that feels like—hopefully. But everyone doesn’t expect Kelly to sing about it. This is true. But I just loved the song so much. And yes, I can relate to it. I came into my sexuality while I was recording this album. I can walk into a sex shop now and not worry about what people would say if they saw me in there.

What do you guys think? Is she going overboard with the topless pics? Will you be picking up her album?

LoveBrownSugar Picks: Summer Reading List

One tidbit about me you may not know: although fashion & beauty are my pride & joy, reading is really my first love. I can remember being in preschool and my mom nearly taking me out of my then-preschool, because I went home crying one day that my teacher took my Dr. Seuss books from me and gave me toys instead. Books were my everything.

Anyway, despite my passion for reading, I often get so bogged down with my work responsibilities & social life, that I don’t leave enough time to feed my mind with literary works. When I do find the time, I really delve deep. Here are a few pieces in different categories I’ve enjoyed flipping through this summer. Whether you’re into beauty how-to, self-help or relationships, there’s something for everyone in my list…

Nutrition: The Beauty Detox Solution

If you’re serious about having more energy and completely turning around your skin, hair and body I would recommend The Beauty Detox Solution by Kimberly Snyder. Inside she explains the importance of fresh produce, eating lighter meals earlier in the day in order to improve overall digestion, and the keys to beauty by healthy living. This book was eye-opening. Though the full detox may be overwhelming, the reward is major and Kim includes helpful tips for beginners along the way, on how to ease into the program.

Beauty: The Curly Girl Handbook

If you’re a naturally curly-headed gal like myself, you probably already know how unruly and complicated it can be to properly care for your hair and style it so that it looks its best. Enter the Curly Girl Handbook by Lorraine Massey. Written by the salon owner of curly specialist salon Devachan, this book reveals in a step by step format the best way to care for your hair, based on your hair type, length and texture. Definitely a must-read for new naturals.

Love/Relationships: A Belle in Brooklyn

If you’ve checked out relationships blog A Belle in Brooklyn, you already know Essence editor and blogger Demetria Lucas serves up raw, humorous yet matter-of-fact anecdotes and opinionated articles on the plight of the young single black female. I’ve always been intrigued by her blog posts, but her book is a double dose of Demetria. Written in her unique voice and formatted as a relationships guide with a memoir touch, Lucas truly dishes out real advice on living your best single life, one personal story at a time. Every woman, who’s ever been single at some point in life, can relate to it. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll conquer with this book.

Fashion: Secrets of Stylists

More than just a coffee table fashion book, Sacha Charnin’s Secrets of Stylists puts me in the mind of a juicy tell-all with Louboutins at the center of the controversy. No seriously, this book is a must-have for anyone aspiring to work in the styling industry or anyone with a general appreciation for the folks behind the curtains, cameras and red carpets who are putting in long hours and sleepless nights to give us something beautiful to look at each day. From style legends like Rachel Zoe and June Ambrose to newbies-come-household names like Mariel Haenn, Secrets of Stylists gives an intimate peek into the lives of these glamorized figures. Turns out it’s not always so glamorous. Who knew?

Motivation: No Matter What: 9 Steps To Living The Life You Love

Ever hear a story that was so touching, so moving and so inspirational that you couldn’t help but be productive and start living life in a new way because of it? Though it doesn’t happen often, there are a few pivotal “Aha!” moments that leave you refreshed with a new take on life. Lisa Nichols’ memoir & self help book No Matter What gives you that feeling page after page. Telling her life’s trials via triumph-over-tribulation anecdotes, Lisa Nichols pioneers the concept of engaging the reader in a “sister girl” tone with a refreshing point of view that almost every reader can relate to. My life has truly been changed after reading this book. Definitely one of my new faves.

Kickin’ It: Qream NYC Launch with Pharrell Williams

Last night I had the pleasure of attending the official NYC launch of the newest liqueur to hit the scene – Pharell’s Qream liqueur. Targeted towards females who enjoy the finer things in life, mega-producer and hip-hop extraordinaire Pharrell Williams presented his new liquer brand to an exclusive group of tastemakers at the New York Public Library.

I was so hyped to try it out considering all the hype that surfaced after his launch in Hollywood. I was invited to a private tasting hosted by Pharrell before the actual party began and I must say it’s delish. It has a creamy, milky consistency and comes in yummy flavors like strawberry and peach. The bottle itself is super chic!

While there I bumped into reality star Meeka Claxton of “Basketball Wives”. She was so super cute, and really sweet. Despite what you may have seen on the show, she’s such a nice girl and so down to earth. Met her hubby Speedy Claxton too, they’re so adorbs together!

Also in the building were big hitters and friends of Pharell like Jay-Z, Russell Simmons, DJ Khaled, Q-Tip, Swizz Beatz, Selita Ebanks, Tyson Beckford & more.

Here I am kickin’ it with Angel of Concreteloop.com and TV/Radio personality Egypt Sherrod.
Here’s what I wore:
Top: H&M, Harem Pants: Style369, Shoes: Forever 21, Necklace: H&M 2010 Fashion for AIDS collection, Ring: H&M, Watch: Michael Kors
Wish I had a better pic than this, but here’s the gist of my outfit:

I was super nervous about trying out harem pants because I didn’t think they would flatter me, but I’m trying to venture out a bit more this summer. Style369 was nice enough to send me these amazing Saffron Drape Harem Trousers and I actually love them. Currently thinking of other ways to rock them, I might hike the bottoms up for a different look next time. You can find your own pair HERE.

Anyway, I has an absolute ball partying it up with Pharrell & company!
Will you be trying out Qream anytime soon?

Cover Girls: Beyonce for Complex Magazine

In case you didn’t get enough of King B in all her other magazine covers like Essence and W Mag this summer, here’s another one to add to the collection. Beyonce Knowles sizzles on the cover of Complex Magazine’s August issue.

What are your thoughts on the cover?

BONUS: Vibe Vixen posted an interesting piece this week on the Kelly Rowland vs. Beyonce debate/controversy. Check it out, it’s quite interesting.

Fierce or Foolish: Jill Marie Jones at Dinner Party

Jill Marie-Jones of Girlfriends fame was spotted partying up in West Hollywood at a self-hosted dinner party last night. She rocked out in a mesh front mini dress, belted at the waist with leopard print peeptoe pumps.
First off, she looks amazing. Clearly, I need to know who her trainer is. Second, though I’m over this American Apparel mesh look, she managed to make it fresh with her accessories.
Also in love with her beauty look. What do you all think?

Fierce or Foolish: Eva Marcille at Qream NYC Launch

Last night mega producer, artist & fashion icon Pharrell Williams launched his brand new liqueur Qream at an exclusive launch party in LA. Eva Marcille showed up to the event wearing a white fringed dress & colorful pumps, and a poppin’ red lip.

I’m all about the fringe but I think it definitely takes an Eva-the-diva type of girl to rock something like this with confidence. This might look similar to a potato sack on me.
