Continuing with our Healthy Hair Month on LoveBrownSugar, I’ve decided to share some super easy & quick hairstyles I tend to do on my natural curls when they’re in a stretched state. These are really great styles to do when you’re hair is a big, undefined mess, maybe 2 or 3 days after you’ve done a defined style like a Twist-Out or a Braid-Out. Even though the definition might not be as precise, you now have tons of volume and length, so this is a great time to take advantage before wash day! So check out these 4 super easy styles:
1. The Stretched ‘Fro
This one is a no-brainer. It’s really fancy free and easy to do. The key to the perfect stretched fro is making sure your ends are properly moisturized (since they’re exposed) and making sure you have a great tool for volumizing your curls, like a Wide Tooth Comb or an Afro Pick.
Apply a great leave-in conditioner to your hair and smooth your favorite hair oil on your ends. I love Giovanni Direct Leave-In Conditioner to moisturize my curls and I seal it with Eden BodyWorks Peppermint Tea Tree Oil. Use your Wide Tooth Comb to concentrate volume at the roots.

2. The Faux Hawk Pinup
This is probably my signature style. It’s my absolute favorite because it can be really classy and elegant or fun & funky. Similar to the stretched fro, you need to make sure the hair you have exposed is properly moisturized.
For a sleek look on the back part of your head, utilize a smoothing gel and seal with a pomade or hair butter which will keep stray hairs in place. Simply part hair up the middle starting at the nape of your neck and ending towards the middle of your head. Roll the sides of your hair up and towards the center where the part lies. Pin your curls up with bobby pins.
3. The Half-Up/Half-Down
Another simple style, this one is a slight modification to the stretched out fro. It allows you the versatility of having “hang time” in the back, while having a neat pinned up style in the front. I love this for days when I really don’t want lots of hair in my face, or when I want my makeup to take center stage.
All you really need for this look is a good set of bobby pins or hair pins. You simply part your hair in half from ear to ear. Tuck and roll the front part of your hair and pin underneath.
4. The Parted Pinup
This one is similar to the faux hawk pinup, except instead of pinning your hair up on the sides, the front portion is parted down the middle and hangs on either side of your head. It’s a little more fun and casual.
Simply part your hair from ear to ear so that it’s split in half – one front portion and one back portion. In the front portion, part your hair straight down the middle. The back portion you will simply roll up toward the center and pin with bobby pins.
