5 Holiday Hairstyling Tips for Textured Hair with Dove

Christina-StyleWatch-Hair

Hey loves! Holiday season means the inevitable holiday hair styling sessions. In my StyleWatch holiday box with 10 Super Stylish Gift Ideas, they sent me a set of the Dove Quench Absolute products. So I got to thinking about a few holiday hairstyling tips for us curly girls to keep in mind this season. Check them out below:

1. Start with a clean slate.

First order of business when styling hair for your holiday fete is getting your hair nice and clean. Your hair will be bouncier and shinier with no product build-up so choose something that clarifies but still moisturizes. Dove’s Quench Absolute shampoo works well with their conditioner and will give your hair a solid and clean foundation. Also smells amazeballs.

2. Moisturize like you mean it.

Don’t ever leave your shampoo session as is. Always follow-up with a conditioner to get that moisture back into your hair after cleaning it. I like using a shampoo & conditioner set, because they are typically formulated to work well together. So if I start with the Dove Quench Absolute Shampoo, I’ll then follow up with the Quench Absolute Conditioner.

3. Treat your tresses.

So sidebar, my favorite hashtag is #treatYOself. I’m all about the treat yourself life. Hence why I love to travel so much – I love a good self-indulgent trip every once in a while. When I can’t get away, deep conditioning my hair is my guilty pleasure. I do it after Cadence falls asleep, while I’m soaking in a hot tub. Before you attempt any holiday styles, especially those that require heat-styling like a press & curl, wand curls, or flat-ironing, you want to make sure to condition well.

4. Style with a vengeance.

The best way to fool-proof your holiday hairstyle is to choose something that fits your personal style, is easy to “fix” (in case of “party-too-hard syndrome” or the accidental chance of snowfall) and works well with your hair type. I have fine hair so I always either opt for big bouncy curls on pressed hair or I’ll minimize heat on my own hair by adding extensions in and doing fancy wand curls. For girls with thicker or fuller hair, you might opt to do a really great perm rod or flexi-rod style or even to do a cute twist-out with a hair accessory (check out Natasha’s 4 Ways to Rock Ornate Hair Accessories).

5. Be Confident!

There’s nothing more beautiful than a confident smile. When you walk into a room knowing, deep down, that you look amazing it makes everything on you look 10 times better. That’s one of the reasons I fell in love with Dove’s #LoveYourCurls campaign this year. It is SO important for us curly girls to feel good about our hair, even though straight has been the beauty standard for so long. I think it’s great that so many brands like Dove have started to push the message about self-acceptance and being comfortable with setting our own beauty standards.
