5 Tips For Finger Detangling Natural Hair

 For most curly hair girls finger detangling seems like a daunting task that none of us wants to deal with. Although this process requires some serious TLC it definitely has some amazing benefits for your hair. By gently using your fingers to detangle your hair you are preventing breakage, promoting curl definition and overall retaining length. When done properly this is a great way to maintain healthy hair and promote hair growth. Keep reading to learn six easy tips and tricks for finger detangling your natural hair.

1. Start on wet or damp hair: For a super easy styling session, we recommend saturating your hair with warm water for a few minutes. It’s easiest to do this in the shower. After your hair is soaking wet apply your favorite oils & conditioner to aid in the process.

2. Use a conditioner with a lot of slip: That means finding a cheap conditioner that has a lot of moisture.One of Fatima’s favorite is the “Aussie Moist” conditioner . To learn more about how she’s used it check out this video.

3. Work in sections: This is extremely important for women who have very tight coils or hair that tends to tangle easily. Start by separating your hair into four large twists, then saturate with warm water and conditioner. If you still find it difficult to work through each section separate your hair into two smaller twists per section.

4. Use a wide-toothed comb: I know what you are thinking.”Why use a comb, if you are ‘finger detangling’?” Sometimes we have tangles that just will not budge. So, if you have to use a tool for assistance make sure it’s wide toothed. In order to work through an extremely matted section of hair we suggest gently combing out the hair working from ends to roots while using a lot of conditioner.

5. Seal with an oil: After all that hard work apply your favorite oil from roots to ends to seal your curls. Not only does this promote shine it will also close the cuticles of your hair making it smoother and less likely to get tangled. Once you’ve sealed each section style your hair as desired.
