Confessions of a Shopaholic: Altuzarra for Target

To kickoff NY Fashion Week, Target hosted a launch party for their newest designer collaboration – Altuzarra for Target. As excited as I was for last year’s collaborations with Phillip Lim and Peter Pilotto, I knew this wasn’t a collection launch to be missed. So I got suited up in my trendiest outfit that still looks cute with flats (because you undoubtedly will have to run past fellow fashionistas to snag your favorite piece in YOUR size. Yes folks, this happens at the launch event too…) and I got there a half hour early so I could  have access to the collection as soon as the doors opened.

My Thoughts On The Collection

What I liked about the pieces I saw for the Altuzarra collection is that there’s a little bit for every one. They created a nice mix of office-appropriate sophisticated looks (like the well-tailored tuxedos and wrap dresses) as well as cute separates for weekend fun (the embroidered sweatshirt is not to be missed) and elegant separates for evening (like the graphic maxi dress that I LIVE for).

The collection overall was well curated and includes a number of staple pieces that can live on in your closet way beyond the current season. Though I loved the Philip Lim for Target collection, for example, it included quite a few iconic prints and graphics that will make it difficult to wear beyond that season it was released without everyone knowing where it’s from.

Top & Shoes: Altuzarra for Target Collection

Unfortunately this collection was not created with the plus-size customer in mind. Though it was beautifully curated and has some really impeccable detailing at affordable prices, if you’re larger than a standard size 14 you will more than likely not be able to squeeze into many of the clothing in this collection. The collection goes up to a size 16 and though I’m a standard size 14, I had to get the largest sizes in everything.

Straight-size girls, even you may have to buy a size up in some of these pieces. I had to go up to a size 16 in the iconic maxi dress with the side split, as the bust and arms were smaller than standard size.

The tops fit true to size though. I was able to swing a size XL in this snakeskin print tie-neck blouse. As a girls who is #onthecusp (blogged about that here), I was able to find a few pieces that fit around my curves after many attempts at trial & error during the preview.

Accessories For All

If you happen to be larger than a size 14/16, don’t feel excluded because the Altuzarra for Target collection also includes some killer accessories. I snagged the iconic lace-up ankle boots which I’m sure will do me pretty well this fall/winter season. I don’t particularly enjoy walking in stilettos but these were surprisingly more comfortable than most. The way my feet are set up (*insert Kevin Hart confused face here*), these aren’t for pounding the pavement daily but definitely will be a nice statement pair for special occasions.

The Altuzarra for Target collection is launching on Sunday, September 14th on both Target.com and Net-A-Porter.com. Overall, if you’re heading to Target early on Sunday morning to try and snag pieces from the collection, try things on before you buy them and if you’re curvy, make sure to snag your favorite items in one size up as well so you don’t have to run back and forth between fitting room and racks. Kudos to Altuzarra for creating such a classic and sophisticated collection. And of course, eternal thanks to Target for allowing fashionistas to shop their favorite designers on a budget.
