A few weeks back I had the opportunity to attend the Motions product launch event at De Berardinis Salon in Manhattan. The evening was filled with lots of laughter and insightful convos about the new motions line. Motions celebrity stylist Ursula Stephen walked us through each product, how to use it and some of her styling secrets. We had the chance to chat with Ursula in more detail about her spring hair favorites and her best tips for styling your hair using the motions line.
It can be very difficult to care for curly hair and there can be so many intricate steps and variables to consider. The last thing us naturalistas need is to be confused about which shampoo to use. While shampoo is generally supposed to cleanse hair some can strip hair of the much needed moisture that we curly girls need. So we have compiled a mega list of curl friendly shampoos that will effectively cleanse hair while making sure to nurture each strand. The bonus is that every single curly shampoo on this list will make your curls and waves pop so you can be your curly best!
1. Lush Curly Wurly Shampoo:This shampoo boasts not one but two super ingredients that are curly girl friendly- both jojoba and coconut oils. These sealing oils are known for being able to penetrate the hair shaft and deliver a power punch of moisture that curly strands need.
5. Dr. Miracle Curl Care Rehydrating Shampoo: Dr. Miracle delivers with pampering ingredients that are perfect for damaged or transitioning hair. Vitamins A and E enrich hair and help to gently cater to curls.
6. Beautiful Textures Tangle Taming Moisturizing Shampoo: Beautiful Textures is one of the only shampoo’s that helps to elongate the curl pattern of any and all curl types. It will help to stretch out curls and ward off dreaded shrinkage while making hair easier to comb or brush through.
7. Janelle Beauty’s My Natural Curl, Curl Cleanse Shampoo: It can be very difficult to make a clarifying shampoo that thoroughly cleanses while being gentle to strands but Curl Cleanse manages to do so. Organic ingredients like lemon juice effectively break down products while aloe vera juice hydrates and replenishes.

This past Monday I had the pleasure of attending the launch event of a new product called, “The Tulip” by InStyler. Since I am a long time fan of the original instyler I was thrilled to attend and test out this new product. The Tulip is an auto curler that works in as little as 3 seconds! I will be completely honest, initially I was very skeptical about this tool. I assumed that even if it really did work, it would NOT work on my natural hair. Boy was I wrong. Keep reading to learn more about the Instyler Tulip event and my experience using the product.
Here at LBS we’ve touched on everything from deep conditioners to our favorite curly cocktails. If you haven’t noticed by now one of the main messages we are pushing on the site is moisture and protection. With the temps slowly dropping it is imperative that we keep our curls hydrated. In one of our recent post we shared 6 ways to rock a hat with your natural hair. This week we are sharing 4 ways to rock turbans in the winter. Although this is a very popular style for warm summer nights don’t freight, we are showing how to pull off this look all year long. Turbans are a great way to protect your hair while staying cute and warm! If you are a visual learning keep reading to see the tutorial on Fatima’s Youtube Channel.
So I’ve been privy to the CLEAR Ultra Shea collection of products for some time now. Actually, it was after I received some samples during their launch event and my mom asked to try them that I first realized how effective they are. She was raving about them so I knew I had to give them a try.
I really like the CLEAR Ultra Shea collection because most of the products in my arsenal focus on maintaining the hair shaft itself but this one is specifically targeted to scalp health. I suffer from dry scalp so it’s really important for me to oil my scalp regularly in addition to maintaining my hair shaft.

Welcome to our second annual Healthy Hair Month! The concept of Healthy Hair Month began last year in 2013 when we realized that the sudden onset of winter brings about a TON of questions about new products, hair advice, maintenance and overall healthy hair care. Not that you guys don’t have questions throughout the entire year, but the winter seems to be an even more difficult season for us naturals, transitioners and relaxed girls as our hair can be very dry and much harder to maintain. With that said, I’m super excited to be back for the 2014 version of Healthy Hair Month here on LoveBrownSugar.com!
