Summer is dwindling down and it’s almost time to say goodbye to swimsuits and tanned skin. All summer long I’ve been keeping my skin protected from those intense sun rays using this line of my new favorite products.
The Moroccan Oil Sun collection has literally been my go to for beach trips, pool parties and any outdoor activity this summer. This smooth, lightweight formula hydrates and nourishes the skin.
It’s broad spectrum, water-resistant sun protection lasts up to 80 minutes to help protect from UVA/UVB rays. This was the first “sunscreen lotion” I’ve ever tried that left my skin with a subtle glow rather than a greyish film all over my body.
Find about more about Moroccan oil below.
There’s something so beautiful and regal about the color purple. Not only is it the actual color of royalty but when I wear it, I feel so empowered and special. That’s why when my fellow Penn alumnus Ashley McFarlane, who started this fashion line Asikere Afana, told me she would be sending me this Zhara dress ($160) in purple, I was ecstatic.
A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of attending “The Tamar Collection” launch event at Red Light PR studios in Manhattan.
At this event myself and a group of beautiful bloggers/socialites had the chance to experience the line and chat with Tamar Braxton up close and personal.
Myself & music artist Levine Leavitt
The Tamar collection is an affordable line of sophisticated and trendy clothing for the everyday woman. What I love about this collection is the wide variety of basics that work for an array of occasions. The line is filled with fun clothing and sexy shoes that can be worked into anyone’s wardrobe. When I asked Tamar who the collection was inspired by here’s what she said…
This line was created for women everywhere in all walks of life. We shouldn’t have to spend $1000 on a pair of shoes in order to be fabulous.
We couldn’t agree more with Tamar! Style shouldn’t be defined by a price tag.

Her gorgeous mom and sister Toni Braxton was also at the event supporting the launch of her collection!
All the guests left with a gift card so we could experience the collection first hand. I ended up ordering these black crepe pants and these blue denim jeggings.

Both pieces fit true to size and they are very comfortable. My favorite piece from the collection is definitely this red A-line dress that was sold out in my size on the site.

With the launch of the highly anticipated, Altuzarra for Target came an open letter. Chastity Garner of Garner Style described what felt to her like a “slap in the face” at discovering that the line only came in “standard” sizes and courageously stressed the sentiment many plus-sized girls across the nation have been holding on to season after season. This sparked a dynamic and desperately necessary conversation amongst the fashion community. Blog post after blog post went up, giving a voice to women who felt that the designer collaborations from Target didn’t necessarily seem aimed to target them. Our very own Christina Brown, founder and Editor-in-Chief of LoveBrownSugar.com wrote about her life “on the cusp” of being a plus-sized woman and the trials that come along with being a (gorgeously) curvy, girl wondering aloud “Am I plus-sized or nah?”
It’s almost here! We are 3 days away from this weekend’s #ShopLoveBrownSugar Holiday Pop-Up shop & celebration in NYC! I’m so excited to finally unveil some of the Limited Edition items I’ve been working on in anticipation of the event. If you know me, you know I’m very supportive of small businesses especially those created and operated by people of color (see my list of faves here). I’m so passionate about supporting indie designers and brands and I’m incredibly excited to present this round up of amazing Shop LoveBrownSugar Limited Edition items that I co-created:
LLULO Limited Edition Shirts
I worked directly with indie brand LLULO on the creation of these Limited Edition sweatshirts and baby onesies to celebrate LoveBrownSugar’s 5 Year Anniversary.
I picked out this fabric because it’s beautiful, it has the LoveBrownSugar colors and I thought it was a great representation of the brand! I really hope you’ll like it as well.
I’ve been working with Michelle of LLULO since 2011 on the promotion of her brand. I think it’s such a dope collection and I’m happy to share it with you all.
INSPIRADO.co Inspirational Mugs
You guys know how important it is for me to be inspired daily and I try do the same for all of you. I post my Monday Motivation stories weekly and also post motivational quotes on social media. Who doesn’t need a little pick-me-up every now and again? I fell in love with these products from Inspirado.co I mentioned in this home decor post and thereafter I’ve been working with them on producing really awesome gifts based on my personal mottos.
This “Get Up. Dress Up. Show Up.” was a no-brainer. We all need a little push sometimes to “show up” even when we don’t feel like it. Getting dressed in something that makes you feel amazing always helps.
And this mug about taking chances was inspired by a quote I posted on Instagram a while back. I’m all about taking chances. No risk, no reward.

The Wrap Life Limited Edition Wraps
From the moment I ran across The Wrap Life on Instagram I was in LOVE. They offer such amazing prints for their head wraps and how can you not love their super cute 15 second tutorials for wrapping the fabric?
I’m so honored to offer two Limited Edition collaboration wraps with The Wrap Life for this weekend – the “Brown Sugar” wrap (pictured above) and the “Love Wrap”.
I had way too much fun trying it on. There’s something so special about a great turban. The perfect weekend coverup.

TNENMRODA Limited Edition Sunnies
I’ve known the founder of accessories brand TNEMNRODA for years now and I’ve seen her take her brand from just an idea to actual products over the years. I even featured her in a story for Time Out New York here. I’m so very proud of all her accomplishments and she will be one of our vendors at this Saturday’s Shop LoveBrownSugar Holiday Pop-Up.
She created these super fun and stylish sunnies bases around my personality, my likes and my favorites. They are so fun and I can’t wait to wear them to my next summer festival! These and her assortment of sunnies will be available this weekend.
I first tried out the line of Belle Butters products this summer. They make some really awesome shea-butter based products including whipped butters, oils and more. The Premium Whipped Shea Butter has been a mainstay in my household ever since.
I use it for my hair, my body (great sealant for after the shower) and I even use it in BabyBrownSugar’s hair (see her hair regimen here).
For this weekend’s event only, Belle Butters will be offering a Limited Edition “Love” butter scented with hibiscus. Man, listen. Tasha, the owner, sent me a sample of our collaboration in the mail this week and I literally have been walking around the house with it in my left hand sniffing it throughout the day. IT. SMELLS. SO. GOOD. You need this butter in your life.
Andrea Bocchio Limited Edition Kupa Bracelets
You guys know I’m all about amazing jewelry. I love a good statement piece. When I ran into Andrea Bocchio’s booth at Afropunk this summer, I was really impressed by her hand woven jewels.
I especially loved this best-selling Kupa bracelet from her collection. For the pop-up shop this weekend, she’ll be offering it in LBS colors pink & white.
It’s a great statement piece and an arm party all of its own. You can also easily pair it with your other arm candy.

Pardon My Fro Limited Edition Design
Back in 2011, I introduced you guys to Dana Bly of Olive Paperie and Pardon My Fro. She designed these amazing stationary designs of me using pictures she found on my blog. That was my first and only time being illustrated and I thought it was so DOPE. We’ve kept in touch ever since and I literally have her prints, her calendars and her stationary all over my office (she’s also in this home decor post).
Just for the Shop LoveBrownSugar event, Pardon My Fro will be vending in NYC for the very first time and offering items with our Limited Edition design. Every thing from throw pillows to stationary and more.
These designers and brands have put their all into these Limited Edition products and I’m so grateful and honored that they’ve decided to work with me on these. Please support them this weekend! If you’re based in NYC, purchase a ticket here and come out to shop for all your holiday gifts!

Looking for cute and casual clothes to take you into fall? Take a look at Target. The comfort-first style of Tom’s signature shoes have been perfectly translated with the upcoming Toms for Target collaboration. The brands have collaborated on a line of diverse and affordable gifts for the holiday season. Unlike Target’s much talked about previous designer collaboration, Toms for Target has a more laid back vibe marrying form with function.
Available in stores and online November 16th the collection includes over fifty items for under $50 and ranges from footwear to accessories to home goods. The most attractive thing about shopping Target for Toms is that you don’t have to feel guilty when snagging something for yourself. Toms is continuing its tradition of charity by donating a meal, blanket, or pair of shoes to those in need for each purchase. So go ahead and grab yourself whatever you like because giving is something we can all get behind. Check out our favorite pieces below:
At LBS we’re obviously obsessed with all things H&M. Christina’s NYFW Style Essentials series was practically and advertisement for H&M’s fall collection. When it comes to trendy and affordable pieces, they are a leader in the fast fashion industry. H&M has set themselves apart with their annual designer collaborations. We’ve swooned over their past collections with designers like Versace, Marni, and Maison Martin Margiela. These collections have a higher price point than typical H&M pieces but obviously considerably lower than retail prices for these luxury designers. That being said, we’re bubbling over with excitement for H&M’s latest collaboration with Alexander Wang, which is set to release in select stores and online tomorrow!
Calling all shoe lovers! Shoedazzle has done it again, with the newest release of their Shoedazzle Fall 2014 collection. I can hardly wait to restock my shoe closet. Chief stylist, Rachel Zoe literally left no fashion stone unturned with this launch, and didn’t forget about those who crave budget friendly high-fashion. She notes that, “Affordable luxury and fashion is something I wish I had more of when I was coming up in this business and just craving style.” Finally someone gets it! Zoe and her team have included some of the season HOTTEST trends with a strong focus on lasercut leather, decadent colors like bordeaux and orchid, prints, and so much more! Enough talking, let’s get to the shoes…
Named Jonetta – this heel with sass is serving just enough attitude and color to turn heads! The buckled detailing paired with the peep-toe platform are definitely made for the diva who craves a little more spice. If you follow @LoveBrownSugar on Instagram, you know Christina has this pair in army green.
Let’s face it, fall and winter bring with it longer hemlines, chunkier fabrics and inevitably – subdued wardrobes. Most of us live in neutrals during the Fall/Winter season. They’re easy to throw on and who can think about neons and brights when it’s cold and dreary out? When I look across my typical fall/winter staple collection, it’s heavily comprised of cremes, blacks, grays and browns. Bleh. So this season I’ve decided to remix my closet by incorporating bold pops of color for fall. Whether it’s a jacket or a jewel-toned necklace, one pop of color can go a really long way.
