Sometimes all you have to do is walk into a room and you just know that the space is going to be life-changing! That’s how I felt when I stepped foot out of the elevator and into Tiffany Hardin’s summit for aspirational, multi-faceted millennial women. The inaugural She Knows Now Summit took place on September 10th at LMHQ and I was lucky enough to be in attendance along with about 100 other women.
This one-day intensive summit was filled with dynamic and inspirational panels, interactive workshops, brilliant mentors, and so many opportunities to network with other aspirational women. We heard from women who are leaders in their industries from companies like RocNation, Trill Yoga, The Jam Stand, and Harlem Runs.
If you didn’t get the chance to join us for the She Knows Now Summit, I’ve got you covered with the 5 things I learned there:
This weekend, while Christina was at the LA installment of the #BrownGirlSLoveBrunch, I had the pleasure of attending the annual celebration of confidence, style, and self acceptance that is Curl Fest. Founded by Curly Girl Collective, Curl Fest is an amazing opportunity for the women of the natural hair community to connect with brands, local businesses, and each other at an amazingly over the top picnic in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park.
Missed out? Check out the curls and street style that were on display below!
While successful blow dry bars are appearing all over the country it can often seem like women with textured hair are an afterthought of this booming business trend. Time restraints and poor training techniques can be a major hassle for someone whose hair requires more than a paddle brush and a plucky attitude.
Fortunately for us celebrated hair stylist Tippi Shorter has teamed up with entrepreneurs Ashley Harrington and Gordon Williams to launch Mane Hair Society, a one stop shop for fast and affordable hair styles that are curly girl friendly.
Recently I had the opportunity to speak with the Mane Hair Society founders at their inaugural pop up shop find out more about them and their brilliant new business below.
Last week I had the privilege of attending an event celebrating the launch of Sister Souljah’s most recent release “A Moment of Silence” at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center. Hosted by the Mayor of Newark and a longtime friend of the author Ras Baraka, the event was an opportunity for the community to come together in appreciation for Sister Souljah’s works and the positive message behind them.

This week was busy to say the least. Between planning ShopLoveBrownSugar (coming this December!) to finishing up the program for BrownGirlsLove Brunch (Philly) this weekend and then chasing after Cadence in between, I had quite the tiring week. One of the highlights, though, was getting to attend the Wendy Williams Show as a guest of Kmart this past Monday. It was my first time attending! Not only did I witness Wendy’s talent live and in action, but I also walked away with an incredible experience and a newfound respect for all that her and her production team do to keep the machine that is “The Wendy Williams Show” running.
I’m happy to say I kicked off my fashion week celebrating a brand that I’m proud to support- Simply Be. We at LoveBrownSugar have been very vocal about the need for strong options and positive imagery within the plus size community. Christina is constantly using her platform to champion this issue vocalizing her frustrations about being on the smaller side of plus size and the need for more diversity in all aspects of the fashion industry.
Simply Be clearly feels the same as we do. They hosted a screening of an episode of America’s Next Top Model at the famed Soho House New York inviting bloggers and reporters to learn about their latest ad campaign and the beautifully uplifting messages behind it.

I’m back from Nashville y’all! If you guys follow me (@LoveBrownSugar on Instagram & username: christinasbrown on Snapchat), I’m sure you probably saw all of my posts this past weekend from Nashville, Tennessee. I went out there on behalf of African Pride for a special “Day of Beauty” event with Dollar General.
Dollar General gave bloggers from around the country and local Nashville consumers the opportunity to experience some of the new beauty brands that are available in-store. I was so surprised to see some of my favorite value hair and beauty brands represented at the event. Take a peek at what I got into this weekend:
A few weeks ago I was invited to attend the Tones of Beauty showcase at Cosmoprof. I wrote about it here. Cosmoprof is the largest national and international beauty tradeshow in the industry and includes a huge exhibition floor with every beauty brand you can think of represented. This year’s Cosmoprof was the first ever to include a luxury beauty showcase curated specifically with brands for multicultural consumers. The Tones of Beauty showcase, curated by love, Aunt Bonnie, brought together over 12 brands that cater to consumers of color, some of which I discovered at the show! Take a peek at what I got into:
This past weekend at Essence Festival, I had quite the packed itinerary but I couldn’t pass up an opportunity to soak up all the fun activities that Ford presented as a 2015 sponsor of Essence Festival. Each year, they have something new and special happening at the Convention Center and at the Superdome. I wrote a post about all the exciting activities in my post 3 Must-Do #FordUp Activities at Essence Festival but here’s a quick recap of all I enjoyed with Ford this weekend.
A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of attending “The Tamar Collection” launch event at Red Light PR studios in Manhattan.
At this event myself and a group of beautiful bloggers/socialites had the chance to experience the line and chat with Tamar Braxton up close and personal.
Myself & music artist Levine Leavitt
The Tamar collection is an affordable line of sophisticated and trendy clothing for the everyday woman. What I love about this collection is the wide variety of basics that work for an array of occasions. The line is filled with fun clothing and sexy shoes that can be worked into anyone’s wardrobe. When I asked Tamar who the collection was inspired by here’s what she said…
This line was created for women everywhere in all walks of life. We shouldn’t have to spend $1000 on a pair of shoes in order to be fabulous.
We couldn’t agree more with Tamar! Style shouldn’t be defined by a price tag.

Her gorgeous mom and sister Toni Braxton was also at the event supporting the launch of her collection!
All the guests left with a gift card so we could experience the collection first hand. I ended up ordering these black crepe pants and these blue denim jeggings.

Both pieces fit true to size and they are very comfortable. My favorite piece from the collection is definitely this red A-line dress that was sold out in my size on the site.
