Hey guys! I am so honored that the lovely ladies of Curly Girl Collective have invited me to host an exclusive Picnic Chat at their 2nd Annual CURLFEST. Taking place at Prospect Park in Brooklyn, NY – Curlfest is the ultimate festival for fly girls with natural hair.
It’s all about spreading love, the Brooklyn way. I was out of town last year and unable to attend but I am SO excited to experience my very first Curlfest today in BK.
I’ll be joined by some amazing influencers and business women who will be chatting about a variety of topics. My chat specifically begins at 2PM EST and I’ll be covering the topic of “Turning Online Influence Into Income”. I’m so passionate about entrepreneurship and pursuing your passions so I think it’s really important for people to know how they can turn their online and social efforts into income. I’m really looking forward to chatting with you guys at Curlfest and for those of you who will not be able to attend Curlfest today – don’t worry!
We are LIVE broadcasting our #LBSLounge chat at Curlfest today beginning at 2pm on Twitter (@LoveBrownSugar) and Periscope (user: LoveBrownSugar)! Make sure to follow the #LBSLounge hashtag on our social media pages today for live updates and also to see all the excitement surrounding Curlfest, follow the #curlfest hashtag as well. Talk to you guys soon!
What questions do you think I should cover in my picnic chat? Leave them in the comment section!
For the first time ever, I’m not hosting a big and extravagant anniversary party. If you’re an old school LBS fan, you know that ever since my 2nd blog anniversary I have been throwing epic parties to celebrate the blog’s growth and progression and to give you guys an opportunity to experience my favorite things. Though I’m beyond excited that this month LoveBrownSugar makes 6 years in the blogging business, I’m even more excited about how much the brand has grown and expanded. We’re now not just LoveBrownSugar but also BabyBrownSugar.com and the @BrownGirlsLove IG community.
So to celebrate that and to also give a few of you some one on one face time and encouragement, I’m hosting the first ever BrownGirlsLove Empowerment Brunch! Though I’ve never hosted a seated brunch before, I wanted to do this because I get so many questions from you all who are inspired by my blogging journey and are interested in starting your own brands and businesses, but are not quite sure how to start or how to take it to the next level. This is an opportunity for me to not just grab a quick selfie with you but to really TALK to you and get to know you one on one.
In addition to a delicious entree and brunch cocktails at super chic brunch hotspot Pranna (79 Madison Avenue, New York, NY), every guest will also receive a free gift bag as well as attendance at a LIVE #LBSLounge session in which I will be doing Q&A about everything from the style and beauty industry to building a successful digital brand. I LOVE sharing my knowledge (hence why I’ve been blogging for 6 years) but especially love connecting with people face to face.
Those of you who are in NYC (or plan to be here on Saturday, August 1st, 2015), there are still tickets available for purchase. Come on down and bring a friend for food, drinks, networking and one-on-one time with yours truly. There are only 35 seats allotted for this event and it’s first-come/first-served so don’t miss out:
I am SO excited to reintroduce our Twitter chat series “LBS Lounge” once again! I first premiered it around this time in 2013 and you guys responded so well to it online that I decided to do a few more at the beginning of the year. Now that I’ve finally gotten into the swing of things with new mommy duty, I’m excited to bring it back once again!
The Monday Motivation a few weeks ago was about Living With No Regrets and in there I mentioned that you only regret the chances you don’t take. For many of us that could be starting a business or building on a side hustle or hobby. For those of you interested in hearing what it’s like to actually take the leap, I’ve rounded up three amazing entrepreneurs for us to chat with and learn from in tonight’s LBS Lounge chat entitled “Taking The Leap: Turning Passion Into Profit”:
You will hear from Ginger Johnson and Sara Liz Pickett of Ginger & Liz Nail Color Collection. I’ve been fans of these two women since my early days as an intern at Honey Magazine. I met them while on set for a celebrity interview and they enchanted me so much with their business savvy and warmth that I’ve been a supporter of Ginger & Liz nail lacquer ever since!
Nicole Sanchez is the founder of tech startup VIXXENN – a premium virgin hair extensions company that partners exclusively with stylists for distribution. She holds two Harvard degrees and has a wealth of knowledge on the tech startup industry, building a niche brand and acquiring investment to start a business. I met her at a tech conference recently and am so excited to have her share her expertise with us.
If you’re not tuning in tonight, you’re missing out! Seriously. Tweet along with me @LoveBrownSugar on Twitter as well as my co-hosts @GINGERandLIZ and @VIXXENNHair using the hashtag #LBSLounge.
See you then!
Year after year, people set goals for themselves to enter into the New Year with. The first month is usually a breeze when it comes to remembering your goals and sticking to them, it’s the 11-months after that you have to worry about. Life happens and you forget about those resolutions. Sometime mid-year, probably when you’re doing your spring cleaning, you stumble upon that little sheet of paper you originally set those goals on and you tell yourself, “I’m starting new. I’m going to get this done by the end of the year”. Right, then life happens again and you forget all about that piece of paper. Once the end of the year comes around again, your stuck placing those same goals at the top of your list for the next year. It’s a never ending cycle that needs to be broken!
It’s a new year! Time to stop talking about those goals and actually put some action behind them! Whether you’re hoping to start a new business, lose a few pounds or make a career change in 2014 – motivation is the key to success. Get motivated with us!

Conde Nast – a magazine publishing conglomerate – has discontinued its internship program. I can hear the hearts of budding magazine editors shattering simultaneously. Conde Nast is responsible for some of the most successful fashion publications, including VOGUE, W, Glamour, GQ and Vanity Fair. None of these prominent glossies will be accepting summer interns.
The company hasn’t disclosed their reasons for eliminating the internship program, but the decision was rendered after two former interns – Matthew Leib and Lauren Ballinger – sued Conde Nast for compensating them less than $1 per hour. Ballinger was paid $12 a day at W while Leib was paid $300 and $500, respectively, for the two summers he spent at the New Yorker.
