Shop LoveBrownSugar Holiday Pop Up Returns

I can’t even express how EXCITED I am to make this announcement. If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve probably already seen the incredible news. Thanks to a generous grant from the folks over at This Open Space, the Shop LoveBrownSugar Holiday Pop-Up shop is returning this December 2017!

It has been my sincere pleasure to host this holiday pop up shop every year since 2014. I am so incredibly passionate about supporting minority-owned business and brands, and there’s no better way to do so than to support with our dollars.

There are so many minority-owned businesses popping up left and right and the internet has made it so much easier to launch successful brands overnight. But the lifespan of a minority-owned business isn’t as long because there are specific hurdles (like funding!) that get in the way of growth. Though passion is truly the foundation of a successful brand, money is an absolute requirement to keep it going.

Check out this recap of Shop LoveBrownSugar 2015 Holiday Pop-Up

I have encountered so many amazing small businesses over the past 8 years since starting LoveBrownSugar. When I discover something beautiful, I have to share it with you all. That’s why I started my #BlackOnBlackFriday holiday shopping lists and it’s why I created Shop LoveBrownSugar. But last year, due to overwhelming costs and lack of funds, I opted out of producing the pop-up shop and instead launched ShopLoveBrownSugar.com. While you all loved the online shop, it wasn’t quite the same as the live NYC shopping experience. There’s nothing like seeing, touching, feeling and experiencing the brands in person.

So when This Open Space launched their $30K Space Fund business competition announcing that they would grant one First Place winner with $6K in space funding (i.e free venue!) I immediately applied with the hope that their Creative Council would see my vision and award me with the opportunity. Well, prayers were answered. I WON FIRST PLACE!! I won $6K to put towards a space to host Shop LoveBrownsSugar in NYC. I’m so incredibly grateful. Words can’t express how honored I am. And thanks to this generous grant, I can offer General Admission tickets for FREE!

Kickin’ It: Shop LoveBrownSugar Pop-Up Shop + 5 Year Anniversary

Words can’t express how happy I am to have made it successfully for 5 years as a blogger. When I first started this blog, I could never have told you that I would be where I am now. Doing what I love, making women of all shapes, sizes and colors recognize their true beauty and using my platform to pave the way for other people in my community.

This past Saturday, December 13th at the Dumbo Loft in downtown Brooklyn, NY I invited you all out to celebrate with me and to support fellow entrepreneurs who I love with my Shop LoveBrownSugar Holiday Pop-Up shop presented by Beautiful Textures. Not only did my NYC family come out and support me but we had such an amazing time! So of course I have to recap for you all we got into:

Beautiful Textures, as Presenting Sponsor, set up a really amazing #GlamWonderland complete with a sweet treats bar, free product giveaways, a mini holiday tree and a really fun photobooth!

They gave away tons of free products and really set the fun and inviting atmosphere for the celebration.

Guests were able to take pictures in the photobooth and score some pretty awesome prizes and gifts.

I know BabyBrownSugar and I aren’t the only ones who enjoyed ourselves in the photobooth!

Guests were treated to cocktails provided by The Most Romantic Wine. The specialty cocktail of the day was the “Liquid Mistletoe” which included a mix of wine and ginger beer. These cocktails were SO good and Icewine is a really great dessert wine that makes the perfect gift. (stay tuned for a giveaway from them during 12 Days of LoveBrownSugar)

Light bites, or should I say delicious awesomeness, was served up fresh courtesy our catering sponsor Sweet Potatoes (New Rochelle). They cooked up some really delicious southern cuisine including catfish bites, turkey meatballs, chicken wings, red velvet cupcakes and of course their world famous sweet potato pies! I can still taste them – SO good.

Makeup touch-ups were provided by cosmetics company Shades by GAL.

They are responsible for my beautiful makeup look for the day and also for makeup touch-ups on many of my attendees!

Guest were also treated to a nail bar featuring mini manicures so they could leave even prettier than they came.

DJ Kraff

Sounds were provided by DJ Kraff who had the crowd jumping all day long.

Our vendors were so awesome and of course sold the LoveBrownSugar Limited Edition items at the pop-up shop.

Find out more about the Limited Edition Collections here.

Very grateful to have presented each of these amazing businesses who sold at the pop-up shop in addition to other vendors like 84 Gem, Nick Knacks and Ola’s Beautique who I didn’t collab with but who really helped to round out the pop-up shop with their super cute items!

I had to pose with illustrator and entrepreneur Dana Bly of Pardon My Fro who designed this super cute illustration based on me & baby girl.

I have this pillow sitting in my office and every time I look at it, I smile!

Vendors also supported each other which was so beautiful! Dana wore a wrap that day from The Wrap Life. And Michelle of LLULO stopped by Dana’s booth to support and purchase prints. I thought this was so beautiful and helped re-emphasize the importance of us all supporting each other.

TNEMNRODA was on the scene sharing her luxe sunnies with shoppers.

The Limited Edition LoveBrownSugar x Belle Butters collab was a HUGE hit. Everyone was walking around smelling themselves. It smells SO good!

Very happy that Tasha Burton of Belle Butters came all the way up from Ferguson, Missouri to be with us for the pop-up shop.

Everyone was inspired by Inspirado.co’s mugs, posters and inspirational home decor.

The ladies of The Wrap Life were quite popular and I know quite a few people who stuffed their bags with pretty head wraps.

Shop LoveBrownSugar Sponsor

Each guest walked away with a deluxe VIP swag bag courtesy my amazing gift bag sponsors including: Neutrogena™ Wrinkle Repair Cream (full size), Doo Bop makeup bag (valued at $20), Cantu Shea Leave-In Conditioning Repair Cream (full size), EDEN BodyWorks Jojoba Monoi and Coconut Shea Deep Conditioner sample packs, Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Deep Conditioning Masque (full size), Beautiful Textures product samples and Ancient African Formula skin and hair products.
