I raved earlier this month about Kelly Rowland being on the cover of Essence Magazine’s September Issue. I’m even more ecstatic to announce that I’m also featured on Page 42 of the same issue! A few months ago, the Essence fashion dep’t tapped me and two other stylish bloggers – Chris Law of Fresher Than Chris and Kela Walker of Kela’s Kloset – to be part of their Fall blogger picks spread.
I’m honored to say the least. They asked me to choose some of my absolute Fall 2013 must-haves and among them were a peplum dress, printed skinny pants, a bright colored clutch, a name necklace and metallic booties. It was SO hard to choose between all the amazing items but overall I’m so happy with the spread.
Make sure you head to newsstands and pick up a copy of this month’s ESSENCE Magazine. Let me know if you like it!
Guys, today is such a proud moment for me. Since Black Enterprise first began their annual Black Blogger Month series, I’ve been a close follower as some of my absolute favorite blogs were featured and highlighted. I never thought that just 4 short years after starting my own site, I would be one of the faces gracing this series. I am SO humbled and honored. This has to be one of my proudest moments to date.
Below is a snippet of the intro to the article. They made your girl tear up! Reading this was like hearing “You iz kind, you iz smart, you iz important…” over and over again a la “The Help”. Deep sigh.
Fashion has always pumped through the veins of Queens, New York native Christina Brown. It’s that passion for all things style and beauty that led the now 26-year-old editor in chic to serve as senior fashion editor of the widely recognizable campus glossy, The WALK, during her undergraduate days at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business. Brown didn’t stop there, she spent her summers learning the ins and outs of the fashion industry, interning at luxury retailer Saks Fifth Avenue, and the ropes of the digital marketing field at BET.
After finding issue with the lack of diversity in fashion and media, the style maven took to the Internet, starting her blog, LoveBrownSugar.com, in July 2009. From high-end designers to mass retailers, Brown’s real-girl approach to covering the highly lucrative and competitive field of fashion has earned her recognition as one of Essence’s Fab 40 Fashion Bloggers, The Root’s 2012 Black Bloggers To Know, Huffington Post’s Top Fashion and Beauty Insiders on Instagram and Sparkah’s Top 100 Beauty Bloggers, among others. Brown has landed editorial positions at Honeyand Uptown magazines, and her insights have appeared on various media sites including The New York Times,Refinery 29 and Elle.com. And if you thought her empire only existed online, think again! Brown joined forces withLiSi Cosmetics to create her own nail lacquer, appropriately titled LoveBrownSugar.
As part of Black Blogger Month, BlackEnterprise.com caught up with the style aficionado to discuss her blooming brand, lessons learned from four years of blogging and why LoveBrownSugar is a sweet online destination.

Guys! One more bucket list item checked off my list! Yesterday, I was featured on GLAMOUR Magazine’s website. Beyond elated that the editors at Glamour saw it fit to include me in their roundup of “Cold Weather Outfit Ideas You’ll Want To Steal” from their favorite bloggers.
Hi everyone! As today is Thanksgiving, I thought it only fitting to introduce you guys to something that I’m incredibly thankful for this year. Aside from being thankful to have all of you as faithful readers of my site, I’m BEYOND ecstatic to announce my latest accomplishment. I can’t even express in words how honored I am to announce this….
What I love about LiSi Cosmetics is that all of their makeup products are so effective and so well-priced. The store resembles a high-priced luxury cosmetics store complete with makeup artists on hand and product trials, but EVERYTHING retails below $20! Can you believe it? So when the Creative Director told me they wanted to name a nail lacquer in my honor, I almost fainted.
This is literally a dream come true. Words can’t express how appreciative I am that all of you follow me, read my posts and actually care about my crazy life. Thanks to you, I’ve been granted amazing opportunities like this. I couldn’t have done this without you. I really and truly appreciate you.
LoveBrownSugar x LiSi Cosmetics nail lacquer is currently available for PRESALE exclusively through SHOP LoveBrownSugar as well as in-store at the LiSi Cosmetics flagship store in NYC (741 Broadway, New York, NY 10003). In December, it will have be on sale on LiSiCosmetics.com as well.
I so appreciate your support guys. First shipments of the polish will go out on 11/26/12 so make sure to order your stock and tell your friends!
Elle Magazine Feature
So yesterday I got my LIFE when I saw I was featured on Elle Magazine‘s online beauty section
for my participation in the BlogHer
12 fashion show! I had such an amazing time (as noted in my Instaweek 8.7.12
post) and in the process I was interviewed by ELLE about my blog and my beauty look. Elizabeth Arden
was the makeup sponsor and Paul Mitchell
was the hair sponsor – loved working with both!

I’m elated! I’ve been quoted by The New York Times within an article about the natural hair community. The lovely Jessica Andrews of Glamazons Blog contributed a beauty piece to the New York Times around the idea of natural-haired women and whether the obsession with “stretched” curls is the newest definition of “good hair”. Remember when I did a post about the idea of a”curlism”? It’s an interesting debate. [CONTINUE]
Myself and a few other amazing bloggers like Patrice of Afrobella, Nikki of CurlyNikki and Nicole M. Melton of Essence.com shed some light on our experiences with this phenomenon.
Do you think natural women are obsessed with achieving the “perfect curl”?
