Michael Purefoy, more commonly known as DJ MPURE, has devoted his time to more than turntables and tracks. The seasoned DJ and budding producer has donated his talents to worthwhile causes like the Annual Toy Drive at Bayonne’s Sneaker room hosted by Victor Cruz of the New York Giants several Christmas seasons in a row. We talked with the New Jersey native about his love of his craft, his need to give back, and what he thinks makes a classic woman.

What is your definition of a classic man?

A man that’s ready for everything at all times, who’s not afraid to get out of his comfort zone to get things done, is comfortable with himself and always striving for greatness.

What makes a classic woman?

A woman that’s comfortable in her skin no matter what the media’s portraying. The media can be saying a size zero or a size six is in but as long as she’s comfortable with her skin it doesn’t matter. A woman with drive and aspirations to always better herself, who wants to make things better for her and her family. A woman who sets examples for little kids that make look up to her or even her husband or boyfriend, somebody who just wants to be great all around.

What drew you to DJing?

Ever since I was a little kid I listened when they were on the radio making mixtapes on Saturdays back in the day. I’ve always had a good ear for good music and the next hottest artist or song. When I was in high school I did it a little bit while I played sports. When my sports career ended I decided to kick it up. I practiced and honed my craft and today I am still progressing at something that I love.

Who is your biggest inspiration?

Believe it or not my biggest inspiration is the people that I don’t want to be like, people who are lazy, people who don’t take chances and take things for granted. Hearing all the stories of people that say “should’ve, could’ve, would’ve”, that’s what I don’t want to be like.

How are you spending Valentine’s Day?

Every year I spend that day with my mother we go out to a nice dinner or lunch depending on what she has to do. And I’m actually DJing an all R&B event at a loft in New York.

Are you currently involved with any volunteer projects outside of toy drives?

I recently got involved with hashtag lunchbag. I’m also involved in Hip Hop to Homeowners with Jay Morrison. That’s where we go around from school to school teaching kids about things they don’t learn in school like credit scores, and other things that could benefit them in the future that they may not learn. These are things I decided to be apart of to better my community and make things better.

Why is giving back so important to you?

It’s important to me because when I was younger I had people in my life to influence me and guide me on the right path. I feel like now with social media and people just seeing success stories, looking at these rappers and ball players they don’t see what else they could do if they don’t make it rapping or playing ball. It’s always great to have a plan B and an education on things you need like a good credit score and saving money, things you need to know in America. I feel like every kid should have an opportunity to know those things.
