It’s Classic Man Crush Monday! At LoveBrownSugar a #MCM is a man with a mission and this week’s man has plenty. Making his way to Head of Artist Relations for Genius and becoming Senior Hip-Hop Editor at MTV News it’s easy to see that Rob Markman never met a goal he couldn’t dominate. His passion for excellence remains steadfast whether he’s interviewing songwriting legends like Rico Love or learning from newcomers like Audrey Rose. This journalist seeks out his subjects’ softer sides giving them a chance to tell their stories weekly on his podcast the Red Light Special. We sought him out this week to learn a little bit about the Brooklyn boy wrote his own story.

Read on to learn more about what makes Rob Markman a classic man below.

What is your definition of a classic man?

A man who isn’t afraid to roll his sleeves up, work, and do what’s gotta be done. Sometimes the odds are against you, sometimes things look bleak but I feel like a real classic man is just going to shut up, no complaints and just get the job done.

What kind of man do you strive to be?

I strive to be a hardworking and honest man, someone who you can take at their word. You’ve gotta be somebody, somebody could trust. If I say I’m gonna do something I’m gonna do it at all costs. I try to be reliable for my family and my closest friends work hard and achieve my own goals.

What makes your co-host Kristin a classic woman?

She works hard, she’ll get in there and just work alongside with me. She goes just as hard as me but she still does it with a certain grace and a certain beauty. It’s hard for a woman, because in this day and age women have to go just as hard as men. Women have to work hard and make it look good too. I don’t even have to necessarily make it look like nothing I just have to work hard and people are going to respect me. Unfortunately women are judged differently. She works hard and makes it look good, and when I say look good I don’t necessarily mean physically I just mean with like a grace.

You’ve experienced so much in your career. What keeps you motivated to move forward?

I’m constantly setting new goals for myself. As soon as I accomplish a goal I’ve probably got three more that I set. It’s never being complacent, there’s so much more to do. When Meek says it’s levels to this- it really is. I know a lot of people look at me like I’m on, I made it, but I’ve only achieved half of what I set out to do I keep moving forward because I know there’s so much more to do.

5 Things you (probably) didn’t know about Rob Markman

  1. His first goal in life was a pair of Jordans. He got his first job in a comic book store at thirteen so he could buy a pair.
  2. Outside of Sway his biggest professional influence is comicbook artist Damion Scott. The two grew up together in Flatbush, Brooklyn. He inspires him because he had no role model as a comic book artist from the hood and was “the first of a kind”.
  3. His favorite fragrance is from YSL. It was a Valentine’s Day gift from his wife who noticed how quickly he emptied out his sample.
  4. His favorite TV show is a toss up between “The Walking Dead” and “Power”.
  5. He is currently working on a deal to expand his work into a book series.
