How To Create A Vision Board: Tips & Tricks

Back in late 2011/early 2012, I created a series here on LoveBrownSugar about How To Create A Vision Board. I’ve run through everything from the Process (Part 1) to My Own Board (Part 2) to Your Boards (Part 3). This year, I’m recapping some really useful and quick tips if you’re creating one for 2015. The creation of your board is almost as important as the finished product. Here’s how to have the best experience and create a board you’re proud of:

1. Use Inspirational Magazines

You’ll get to the images you want alot faster and easier if you only grab images from the ones you personally love and that represent you. I happen to love Essence, Lucky, People Style Watch, Glamour and a handful of others. I keep my image search to just those because I know I’ll find pics that exude the life I want to live.

2. Write Your Goals Down

You’ll be able to grab images when you have an idea of what you’re looking for. One of my goals for 2015 is to own my own home. So I looked specifically for images that represent the type of home I want – decor and all. It’s a good tip, in general, to write things down that you want accomplished.

3. Be Specific

With your goals and with the images you choose to represent them. Don’t just put any random car on your board if you want to own a Lincoln MKC. Put a picture of the Lincoln MKC on there! Whatever it is you want, choose specific images that represent it.

4. Be Selective

In the process of putting my board, I usually cut out way more images than I actually use. That’s totally fine. You’re curating the goals and dreams you want to accomplish for the year. It’s fine to be selective. It will help with (Step 3) also.

5. Make It Visible

Once you’re done with your masterpiece, make sure you place it somewhere visible. The most important part of the vision board process is putting it where you can see it daily. After that, get to work making the magic happen!

The picture above is a snapshot of my personal Vision Board. I will be creating my Vision Board for LoveBrownSugar at a special event I’m co-hosting on this upcoming Saturday, January 10th here in NYC.
