Kickin’ It: Dollar General #DGBeauty Day with African Pride

DGBeauty-with-African-PrideI’m back from Nashville y’all! If you guys follow me (@LoveBrownSugar on Instagram & username: christinasbrown on Snapchat), I’m sure you probably saw all of my posts this past weekend from Nashville, Tennessee. I went out there on behalf of African Pride for a special “Day of Beauty” event with Dollar General.

Dollar General gave bloggers from around the country and local Nashville consumers the opportunity to experience some of the new beauty brands that are available in-store. I was so surprised to see some of my favorite value hair and beauty brands represented at the event. Take a peek at what I got into this weekend:

I had the opportunity to hang out with some of my favorite fellow bloggers and vloggers. So many of them I see and love from afar but haven’t had the opportunity to meet. People like Bee from AllThingsBee. Tekela from NaturallyKela, Nicole of NapturalNicole, Rachel of RachelOBeauty. Also got to see Ijeoma of KlassyKinks, Candice of Naturally Stellar, Constance of Team Natural and Chime Edwards of HairCrush (not pictured).

And of course I always love hanging with my boo Lexi of LexiWithTheCurls.

What was cool about the “Day of Beauty” with Dollar General is that outside of the fun I had hosting the African Pride “Pride in Beauty” booth, I also had the opportunity to meet with and experience brands I’ve never used before. L.A. Colors was one of those brands.

They had a really cool array of makeup products and all low prices! I’ve already tried out one of their eyeshadow palettes and loving the colors. Mix them with a little shadow primer and they’re pretty awesome and last all day.

I’m always a fan of a good beauty book and Dollar General launched their own beauty editorial with singer Chante Moore. We had dinner with Chante on Friday evening and she is truly a sweetheart. She also performed live at the event, which was a nice treat for everyone. “Chante’s Got A Man” used to be my jam!

Maybelline was also there on site. I didn’t even realize they are carried in Dollar General! Their reps told us about a new lash product called Lash Sensational™ – took one of those home to try out!

They gave out mini makeovers in their booth, featuring celebrity MUA Gabriel Almodovar.

I ran into Chime and Constance over at the Cantu Beauty station. The two of them informed me that Cantu has a Cantu for Kids line infused with natural ingredients like shea butter, coconut oil and honey. Can’t wait to give it a try on Cady’s curls!

Speaking of kids, I also walked over to the Unilever booth and ran into a familiar brand – Just For Me. This was my first ever relaxer as a kid – I still remember the commercials! Well, they’ve now revamped their line to include a collection of products for natural hair maintenance like hair milk, leave-in conditioners and edge taming creams.

After experiencing the different beauty brands on site, I headed over to the African Pride booth to host and hand out free products from the brand. The Shea Miracle Bouncy Curls Pudding is one of the products we gave away to guests at the #DGBeauty event.

I’m also a sucker for a fun photobooth. Cadence and I had a blast. Silly faces all day!

For those of you who live near a Dollar General, I would definitely suggest checking out their beauty aisle. You might be surprised that the carry a vast array of some of your fave and also some undiscovered beauty brands on a budget.
