Kickin’ It: Summer Protective Hairstyling Brunch

summer-styling-brunchThis past Saturday I was invited by Ijeoma of KlassyKinks to sit on a panel for a really dope event called the Summer Protective Hairstyling Brunch. Sponsored by hair company Haute Klassy Kinks, the event was centered around ways for naturals to rock really dope protective styles during the summer. As someone who frequently does protective styles I was asked to weigh in and shed some light on my techniques.

curls-coils-modelImmediately upon walking in, I spotted so many beautiful heads of hair. Everything from ‘fros to yarn braids and twistouts.

yarn-braidsI had never seen yarn braids up close before. First time for everything!

jessica-andrews-deena-campbell-lunchTwo of my good friends Jessica Andrews of Glamazons Blog and Deena Campbell – Beauty & Hair Editor of Essence.com – came out to support me and to kiki.

Ijeoma looked amazing in her custom made ankara crop top suit and heels.

jessica-andrews-christina-brownI opted for a playsuit from Boohoo Plus Collection which I’ll do an outfit post on tomorrow.

protective-hairstyling-brunchWe chatted about everything from protecting your edges to co-washing vs. shampoo. It was a really great conversation and such a good time chatting and eating with fellow hair-obsessed ladies, inluding fellow panelist and CEO of Haute Kinky Hair Antoinette Murray.

Also the food & drinks at Chocolat in Harlem where the brunch was held was amazing. I don’t even like grits and I cleaned my clear off the plate. Yum.
