LBS Chic: 5 Outdoor Festival Style Essentials

festival-style-essentialsThis past weekend I attended the Governors Ball Music Festival in NYC and while I was there, I snapped a few street style pics of my look. After going through these images, I realized that I tend to wear the same types of items over and over to my favorite outdoor music festivals like Governors Ball, Made in America and Afropunk, for example. I’m not alone – many fashionable festival-goers pull from the same inspiration to complete their looks.

If you have plans to attend any upcoming summer festivals, here are 5 of my personal music festival style essentials you may want to try:

1. Flower Crowns

The quintessential hippie accessory, flower crowns are always a huge hit. Now that they’re ever-so-popular you can find them in most fast fashion and accessory retailers like Forever 21 or Claire’s.

2. Flash Tattoos

My obsession with flash tattoos started when I applied my first one in the Dove cabana at Governors Ball, but they’ve been incredibly popular for quite some time now. At music festivals, they’re everywhere and so can be considered chic mainstays in festival attire.

3. Backpacks

Though you should be careful about size restrictions (some festival grounds won’t allow them oversized), backpacks are a growing trend in festival fashion. You can carry all your belongings without slinging them across your shoulder and you’ll still have free arms to wave left and right during your favorite performances. WIN!

4. Leather Booties

These are great all-weather shoe options for an outdoor festival because you don’t know what the weather will bring AND it can get pretty dirty on festival grounds. Sandals are cute but you’ll inevitably end up with black feet by day’s end. You also run the risk of someone turning up a little TOO high and crushing your toes. Play it safe – wear booties.

5. Body Jewelry

Rising in popularity is unconventional yet delicate jewelry I like to call body jewelry. I call it that because it spans beyond just rings, necklaces and bracelets. Some pieces span from your ring to your wrist like the one I’m wearing above. Other pieces hang from your neck to your back. Some even wear the pieces around their head like a crown. Anyway, they’re officially a thing. Especially for festivals.
