Being broke is no joke, especially around the holidays. One simply does not have time to pinch pennies, so we’ve put together 5 awesome DIYs you can gift to your favorite peeps if you’re on a low budget. Thank us later.

This is a whole new meaning to “Love Brown Sugar”. This gift idea will literally take 5 minutes using items already around your house. It’s love and a great skin product packed in a little jar.

1. Homemade Sugar Scrub

What you’ll need:

  • Coconut oil or Olive oil
  • Brown sugar or Granulated sugar (or salt)
  • Mason jar
  • Mixing bowl
  • Bow or ribbon

1. No need for a measuring cup, all you have to do is fill your mason jar with the sugar or salt and pour into a mixing bowl.

2. Fill the jar half way with an oil of your choice and mix with the sugar or salt.

3. Empty the mixture back into the jar and tie a bow around the jar.

Simple and affordable – two of our favorite words!

 

2. Beauty Goodie Jar

You’d be surprised with what you can put together last minute and on a low budget.

What you’ll need:

  • Mason Jar
  • Tissue paper
  • Bow or ribbon
  • Basket filler (You can use the paper from your shredder, tissue paper or newspaper)
  • Goodies – Nail polish, nail files, nail wraps, mascara, eye liner, lipstick, small makeup sponge, hair accessories (any goodies of your choice)

1. Pack some of the basket filler or newspaper at the bottom of the jar.

2. Add the goodies into the mason jar.

3. Use the tissue paper as gift wrap and secure with a bow.

You can literally pull this off with less then 20 or 30 bucks depending on what you get! 10 if you’re an awesome bargain shopper. Even better, the jar is totally reusable, Eco-friendly much?!

A Beautiful Mess

This DIY is the cutest ever, it’s so low budget you’ll be upset with yourself for not having thought of it!

What you’ll need:

  • White mug
  • Sharpie markers
  • Packs of hot chocolate
  • Bow

1. Use your sharpie marker(s) to create any design or message you want on the mug.

2. Bake the designed mug for 30 minutes in the oven at 350 degrees.

3. Place the hot chocolate packets into the mug and tie the handle with a bow. You can even wrap the mugs in decorative plastic or wrapping paper if you’re fancy.

Love it! Under 10 bucks yes?

 

4. Framed Music As Art

I mean, Queen Bey can do no wrong. THIS ALBUM IS CRAY CRAY! Do you have a special someone in your life that’s going as crazy about the “Beyonce” visual album as we are? Well this is definitely a great way to show them how much you support their obsession!

What you’ll need:

  • “Flawless” visual cover/poster (a printout works or a screenshot from the “Flawless” music video)
  • Picture frame
  • Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie speech “We should all be feminists”
  • Stencil
  • White paint
  • Paint brush
  • Bow

1. Print out or buy the visual poster for the track “Flawless”.

2. Choose a phrase from the feminist speech that stands out or resounds with your giftee.

3. Use the stencil and white paint to write out the words onto the picture then let it dry.

4. Choose a frame big enough to house your creation and stick a pretty bow on it!

5. Everything That Glitters is Gold

Know someone that loves home decor? This fancy DIY is perfect for the beauty guru with a fancy vanity.

What you’ll need:

  • Empty bottle or jar
  • Gold Glitter
  • Glossy Mod Podge
  • Foam brush
  • Newspaper
  • Sand or small pebbles (skip this item if you’re using real flowers)

1. Use the foam brush to paint a generous amount of Mod Podge onto the bottle.

2. Pour glitter onto newspaer and roll the glue coated bottle into the glitter.

3. Seal the glitter with more Mod Podge and let dry overnight.

4. Fill the bottle halfway with the sand or pebbles (this will serve as a weight to hold the bottle steady).

5.  Add flowers as the final touch.

Perfect on their vanity, by the bedside, or in the bathroom. Before you know it you’ll be a DIY queen.
