NYFW Style Essentials: The Two-Piece Suit

Very rarely will you ever find me in a suit. Ever since I decided not to go the corporate route with my career, I’ve been blessed to wear pretty much whatever I want during the week. Suits are not my favorite thing. They remind me of dreadfully long interviews and never-ending office hallways. Anyway, I digress. The one type of suit I’m actually fond of is the type that is totally on-trend this season. Two pieces, one pattern or color, simple and chic.

So as I’m sure you can tell from my other NYFW Style Essential posts, I went a little crazy at H&M and stocked up on most of my looks for the week.

This floral two-piece number is a Scuba Skirt ($17.95) and a Short Jersey Top ($17.95). I took these pics in between covering the Tracy Reese show and heading to the Essence Street Style Block Party.

The beauty of a two-piece suit is that the pieces don’t necessarily HAVE to come as a pair in order for you to make them a suit. These two pieces are sold separately. Just make sure they’re the same color and fabric and voila.

Also to note – you can always wear them as separates. These two pieces alone can give me infinite looks. As long as you like both pieces and they fit you well, you should be able to easily get more mileage out of a two-piece suit in your closet by simply pairing them with other items.
