We’ve been accustomed to believe that scrubbing away the oil from our skin is the best way to keep it clean and clear. So hearing the words, “oil cleansing” may sound bizarre. The best combination for most skin types is extra virgin olive oil and castor oil. Castor oil is rich in ricinoleic acid which helps to fight acne causing bacteria. This natural astringent helps to pull impurities from the skin, making it ideal for oily or combination skin. Castor oil also aids in sloughing off dead skin cells to reveal brighter more youthful skin over time. Extra virgin olive oil acts as a moisturizer to balance out the castor oil. EVOO helps to hydrate the skin leaving it soft and supple after each wash. This powerful oil is packed with antioxidants, Vitamin A & Vitamin E. Over time, this oil cleanse will promote youthful radiant skin.

How To Oil Cleanse:

Step 1. Put 1/2 cup of castor oil and 1/2 of EVOO into a medium sized bowl or bottle.

Step 2. Mix the oils together.

Step 3. Rinse your face with warm water to relax and open your pores.

Step 4. Gently massage the oil mixture into your skin for about 60 seconds.

Step 5. Use microfiber cleansing cloth and warm water to remove any excess oil from your face. Using a gentle scrubbing motion to help exfoliate and loosen and dirty from the pores.

Step 6. Rinse thoroughly with cool water to close your pores.

Optional: apply a lightweight moisturizer. This usually isn’t a necessary step because the oil works to hydrate and clean the skin simultaneously.

Helpful Tips

If you are new to this, figuring out the proper oils for your skin may take some trial and error. Although a good starting combo is EVOO and castor oil, you can use whatever works best for you. Personally, I prefer coconut oil and castor oil.

If you have acne prone skin swap the coconut oil for a lighter oil like jojoba or grape-seed. If you have very dry skin opting for avocado oil may be best. Experiment with the ratio of oils until you find the proper balance for your skin. Castor oil acts as the cleansing agent, therefore if you have dry skin you may need less and if you have oily skin you can add more. Keep in mind there is no right or wrong way to do this. The key is figuring out what works for you and sticking to it!  With consistency you will notice overall healthier and more radiant skin.
