LBS Beauty: Philosophy + 4 Ways to Renew in 2015

Most of you know the reason I started this blog was because I noticed a real absence in the digital world for voices like mine. I wanted to provide a platform for women like me to voice our opinions and to showcase what makes us beautiful. Another reason I started my blog is because fashion and beauty has always been like therapy for me. Whether it was dealing with self-esteem issues or just a way to empower myself – my clothes and beauty look always have had such an emotional connection to me. With that in mind, I was really excited for the opportunity to review a product from beauty brand philosophy.

I love a brand with a story and philosophy has done an amazing job of connecting their products with a broader story and mission. Beyond bringing great products to the market, philosophy is about empowering their customers with inspiration and also making a social impact. I was asked to review one of their new skincare products called renewed hope in a jar ($47), and being the skincare junkie I am, I jumped at the opportunity.

I get asked all the time about my skincare regimen and it’s very simple. I cleanse and moisturize twice a day and I do so with really great products that keep my skin in great shape. Moisturizer is a big piece of that regimen – using the right one can help with anti-aging and dryness in harsh weather. renewed hope in a jar is a lightweight skin renewing moisturizer featuring technology that claims to give your skin a refined texture, smaller pores and less fine lines.

After having used it for over a week, I can definitely attest to its moisturizing power. It’s lightweight but still quenches my dry skin (I have combination skin so it’s really dry in the winter!) and it smells really good. What’s more impactful about this product is that it is connected to philosophy’s hope & grace initiative. 1% of all philosophy product sales supports community-based mental health efforts. Whether we care to admit or not, we each know at least one—1 friend, 1 niece, 1 daughter, 1 sister, 1 aunt —who may be among the 1 in every 4 women struggling with a mental health issue. I personally have a few friends and family members suffering and it can leave you feeling really helpless.

Through the hope & grace initiative, philosophy dedicates 1% of all its sales to effective community-based organizations working to empower women through the promotion of mental health and well-being, and the prevention and treatment of related issues. The program commenced on July 15th, 2014 on philosophy.com and became integrated into all philosophy retail channels (online, in-store, and televised) on January 1st, 2015. With that said, renewal and mental health is really important to me personally and something we should all take very seriously. Sometimes, it just takes something simple to give yourself the mental and physical renewal your body needs.

So before I go, I’ll leave you with 4 Ways to Renew in 2015:

1. Take a trip travel-more

Travel is one of the most therapeutic and inspiring things you can do with your time. And I’m not talking business travel. I’m talking three – five days off to literally soak up a new environment and immerse yourself somewhere other than your hometown. I’ve had major epiphanies on travel excursions – sounds cliché but it’s true!

2. Make a vision board

MyVisionBoard

You guys know I’m HUGE on vision boards. I’ve written a complete How To Make A Vision Board series. Using images and words to represent life goals and putting it somewhere highly visible can impact your life in ways you don’t even know. Try it and tell me if it works for you.

3. Change your look

The fastest way to renew yourself is to change your look. I love feeling refreshed and revived, hence why I’m always in a different hairstyle or wearing a new shade of lipstick. Something as simple as a haircut can make you see yourself in a new light.

4. Book a spa day

I did this recently with a group of friends and just a few hours at the spa left me recharged and ready to take on new challenges. Aside from the back massage I desperately needed, a nice spa day really allows you to pamper yourself. You can even do this at home using some of philosophy’s other at-home bath & body products.
