LBS Chic: #PlusIsEqual Style Essentials With Lane Bryant

If you know me, you know how important loving and appreciating your body is to me. The reason LoveBrownSugar.com has been able to grow and flourish is because I’ve been brutally honest about my personal journey toward accepting myself and embracing my differences. I’ve made an effort to show and promote beautiful women of color who emphasize the values of acceptance and appreciation of their own unique beauty. I truly believe that, whatever stage you’re in – whether you’re embracing new curves (hello, post-pregnancy pounds!) or learning to embrace one of your body “flaws” as an asset, that you should appreciate the journey and wear what makes YOU look and feel beautiful.

For me, that also means shopping for clothes at stores that make me feel my best and that help me exude my personal style. So when Lane Bryant contacted me about their #PlusIsEqual campaign that emphasizes loving and appreciating yourself, at every size, it definitely struck a chord. Even though I’m on the lower end of plus size, I can appreciate stores that really take the time to address plus size customers in a way that’s well-tailored and special.

I’ve always been very passionate about seeing women of different shapes, sizes and colors being promoted as beautiful. One of my most popular posts here on LoveBrownSugar, written back in 2011, was about my wish for more diversity and inclusion within the fashion industry. Fashion’s definition of beauty can be very one dimensional so I’m very honored to take part in this initiative and to show you all how Lane Bryant’s fall looks help me to feel confident and beautiful. Here’s a little more about these two looks I bought and loved from Lane Bryant this fall:

The Perfect Little Black Dress

You guys know that every season I pick up a new one. You simply can’t have too many of them. Little black dresses are so sexy and classic at the same time. You can pair them with any accessories you like and they are universally flattering.

I decided to switch it up and really celebrate a part of my body that I typically hate – my arms. I went for a strappy LBD with crossover straps and gold hardware.

For those of you shopping for a little black dress this season, LaneBryant.com has a complete page with their options here.

I paired my LBD with this fancy chain wrapped gemstone bracelet I snagged at Lane Bryant as well. They have a great jewelry wall.

Loving Layered Separates

One of my favorite fall looks to recreate is layered blouses over skinny jeans with a leather jacket. Three pieces that are simple and undoubtedly look good on me.

I typically choose either a bright punchy color or a print for the blouse, a basic blue skinny jean, and a neutral colored jacket.

This Muse Dot Print Shirt was the perfect mesh of a neutral and a print. It’s black and white – uniform colors for working NYC girls in the winter.

I paired it with these Super Stretch Skinny jeans. I’m all about a skinny jean because they flatter my curves and also emphasize my best asset – my legs!

To keep off the Autumn chill, I topped the look off with this Faux Leather Jacket with Buckles in Cognac. It’s a great neutral and layers well with separates like this.

There were so many cute and stylish pieces at Lane Bryant, it was hard for me to narrow it down to two looks, What I really love is that there’s a little something for every plus customer at their store. Whether you’re looking for casual separates that are great quality and a little more trendy, or if you’re looking for classic work separates, they have you covered. Plus size shops like Lane Bryant are really stepping up their game to make women of all shapes and sizes feel comfortable in their skin. Plus really is equal. That’s definitely something to be excited about.

Which looks are you most looking forward to flaunting this season? What about your body will you be celebrating?
