LBS Picks: 8 Favorite Pieces from the Saks Fifth Avenue Scandal Collection

Saks-Fifth-Avenue-Scandal-Collection.jpgMany women are proud gladiators in chic suits, including me. I rearrange my Thursday nights to accommodate Scandal. I spend at least six hours a week watching, re-watching, analyzing, re-analyzing, pre-tweeting, live-tweeting and post-tweeting the smash ABC drama. It’s clear that I’m not the only viewer obsessed with Scandal, since the season premiere drew an audience of more than 10 million.

However, it’s not just the antics of Olivia Pope (portrayed by the gorgeous actress Kerry Washington) and her team of associates that keeps me watching week after week. Pope’s wardrobe is insane! She dons chic trenches (like the infamous white Burberry stunner from Season 3 Episode 1), bold pencil skirts and classic printed dresses to fix the drama in D.C.

Saks Fifth Avenue knows how fixated the world is on Pope’s attire, so the retailer has curated an entire line inspired by Scandal. It’s glamorous, and uses a mixture of classic and modern pieces to attract a wide range of women. The collection is ideal for autumn – since it features many dresses in light textures – but some of the pieces can be transitioned to winter.

We love Saks’ vision on the Scandal collection. It helps us channel the Olivia Pope in all of us. All of the pieces are out of my price range, but a girl can dream! Here are some of LoveBrownSugar’s favorite pieces:

Scandal Saks - Akris Punto Leather Pencil Skirt

8. Leather is in this autumn, and Saks is offering up an edgy addition to the trend. This leather pencil skirt from Akris Punto is a simple and chic, but can also be punched up for a late dinner with a beau or friends. It retails for $1580 (whew!) but I’m sure there are inexpensive alternatives floating around.

Scandal Saks - Akris Punto Flared Dress

7. I love this Akris Punto flared dress! The hem adds a twist to an otherwise simple piece, which makes it an elegant addition to any wardrobe. Saks is offering the $995 gem in both maroon and a deep greenish-gray hue.

Scandal Saks - Akris Punto Peplum-Back wool Jacket

6. Wool and peplum is a heavenly matchup. This Akris Punto jacket is one of those fall-to-winter pieces that can be recycled multiple times throughout both seasons. The Saks model belts the jacket to offer extra flare, but the plaid pattern and stiff collar are enough to turn heads. Saks is selling this piece for $1580.

Scandal Saks - Weekend MaxMara Geneve Tweed Check Coat5. I’ve never been a fan of tweed. The material scratches my skin, and is difficult to clean. But I’d make an exception for this MaxMara number. It is simply everything. I especially love the plaid pattern and long hemline. I’d don this coat with boots – as the model has done – and a sexy, but light dress. The $805 price tag is definitely out-of-my-range, but I’m adding it to my Santa Clause wish list.

Scandal Saks - Valentino Ribbed Open-Back Dress4. Valentino adds a sexy element to the Scandal collection with this open-back dress. It is definitely dinner-and-date attire, but can also serve double-duty at a holiday cocktail party. Saks describes the $3200 dress as “sweet, flattering and ladylike.” Yes. It is all of those adjectives, and then some.

Scandal Saks - Akris Punto Wrap-Waist Dress

3. Olivia Pope is the queen of wearing white. White trenches, white skirt suits and white dresses dominate her wardrobe. She even dons white to clean crime scenes full of blood and dead bodies. Yet, the white remains unblemished. This Akris Punto wrap dress is the classic Pope staple. The plunging, but elegant neckline screams “it’s handled.” Saks is retailing this treasure for $995.

Scandal Saks - Oscar de la Renta off-the-shoulder dress2. You want to make a statement? Show up to the White House’s correspondents’ dinner in this daring Oscar de la Renta cocktail dress. Well, Pope aka President Fitzgerald Grant’s mistress can do that. I’ve never been invited to the correspondents’ dinner, so a coworker’s annual holiday soiree will have to do. The $1690 curve-hugging dress will make any woman the star of the hour, and rightfully so. It offers Sophia Loren-esque glam.

Scandal Saks - Burberry Prorsum1. Trench coats are an Olivia Pope specialty, and this exquisite Burberry Prorsum piece needs to make an appearance on Scandal. It’s rainproof, which seems necessary in Pope’s world, and also combines cotton and rubber in an unexpectedly fashionable way. Saks is selling this coat (which I’m officially pining for) for $2795. Let me start pinching pennies in hopes of scoring a knockoff at TJ Maxx.
