Cover Girls: Kerry Washington Covers ELLE Magazine

Finally the cover we’ve all been waiting for Ms. Kerry to do! Everyone’s favorite Scandal star Kerry Washington (aka Olivia Pope on Thursdays) has landed the coveted slot as cover star of ELLE Magazine‘s June issue.

The starlet looks absolutely flawless and is flaunting her body and her regal stance on the pages of the premiere US fashion glossy.

Aside from being obsessed with her on and off-camera style, I love some of the nuggets she drops in her interview with ELLE about her career and rise to fame.

On her recent Scandal success:
“I’m the luckiest broad in Hollywood now. To be the lead actor on Scandal and to be in the highest-earning Tarantino movie- I don’t get to ask for more.”

 On prepping for red-carpet appearances:

“I found out I enjoy the process. All these people show up at my house, they all have kits, someone has dresses. And it’s like, Let’s have fun. It’s not all about me. We’re able to create stories on the red carpet.”

Sister girl looks super glam – I’m beyond proud of her. Aren’t you?

Cover Girls: Kerry Washington for ARISE Magazine

I called it last year, guys. 2013 is the Year of Kerry. Kerry Washington is on a roll, gracing yet another magazine cover to kick off the new year. This time she talks exclusively with ARISE Magazine about her role in blockbuster Tarantino hit “Django Unchained”, and her pride in being the only African-American female lead in a national TV role.

About the honor, she told ARISE “I felt proud of America. I felt proud of us as a society that we allowed the face of this show to be something that we don’t normally see in this role.”

How can you NOT adore her?! I can’t wait to see what else is in store for her thus year. I also can’t wait for Scandal to return on this Thursday, January 10th. I’ve been on the edge of my seat since the last cliffhanger episode! (I’m addicted!)

Cover Girls: Kerry Washington for UPTOWN

3 snaps in a Z-formation for my girl Kerry Washington. I love this woman! Aside from my absolute obsession with “Scandal” (I start going through withdrawal on Thursday morning before new episodes premiere!), Kerry has been tearing it up on both the small and big screen. This month she covers my alma mater – UPTOWN Magazine – flaunting sultry and sass for days.
2012 has definitely been Kerry’s year. She’s scored a leading role on an ABC series and this month she stars in Quentin Tarantino’s “Django Unchained” with Jamie Foxx.

She also happens to be one of my favorite red-carpet stunners. She never misses a beat with her fashion choices.

Fashion Countdown: 2013 Met Gala Top 10 Best Dressed

This year’s Met Gala theme was punk inspired. Despite having an out-of-the box theme to adhere to, celebrities showed up to the red carpet clad in everything from baroque to bazarre last night at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Check out my top 10 favorites below:

10. Taylor Swift in J. Mendel

There wasn’t much chat about Taylor Swift’s look but upon e-browsing I stumbled on her Met gala look and thought it was absolutely stunning. I love that the dress is dark but the clever mesh detailing makes it lighter. I’m also a fan of her smokey eye look and slightly messy hair. Punk yet chic.

9. Solange in Kenzo

Solange was her regular classy, elegant yet fun & eclectic self. Of course I’m OBSESSED with her oversized afro. The bigger the hair, the better in my book. And I love how her dress leaves a bit to the imagination with the thigh-high detailing and keyhole.

8. Nicole Richie in Topshop

I have to applaud Nicole Richie for fully committing to the punk theme and for becoming a style muse with this Met Gala look. Although silver strands are not typical, she somehow managed to pull it off without a hitch. Even bolder? Gracing the red carpet in Topshop. Straight bad-a** and I love it.
7. Beyonce in Givenchy
So Queen Bey is no stranger to Givenchy. She donned the design house at last year’s Met Gala as well. Contrary to popular disapproval, I actually was a slight fan of this look on Beyonce. There are two things she must lose for me to love it though. The belt and the boots. It’s overwhelming the look.
6. Rooney Mara in Givenchy
Rooney Mara slayed in this custom Givenchy gown. She looks like a dark angel with the scalloped gown in stark white and her bold purple lip. The makeup, the hair, everything was just right.
5. Cameron Diaz in Stella McCartney
Cameron Diaz is another celeb that was under the radar at the gala but I thought looked absolutely beautiful. Her Stella McCatrtney looks was an eye-catching cobalt blue with a structured cape and a metallic studded belts for punk effect.
4. Sarah Jessica Parker in Giles & Philip Treacy Headpiece
Oh Carrie, how I love thee. In case you forgot how glamourous Sarah Jessica Parker can be, she reemerged on the red carpet at the Met last night to remind you. SJP was glowing in a Giles printed gown and a Phillip Treacy head piece. I thought this was not only a beautiful gown but that she really committed to the the punk theme as well. And anyone willing to don a headpiece that massive, gets extra cool points.
3.  Kerry Washington in Vera Wang
You guys know I stan for Kerry Washington. Olivia Pope can do no wrong. I thought this Vera Wang dress was a beautiful selection and her smokey eye and neutral lip were a perfect compliment. She accessorized with long leather gloves and sleek straight hair.
2. Anne Hathaway in vintage Valentino

Now THIS is punk glamour at it’s finest. Anne Hathaway normally floors me with her red carpet choices and last night’s Met Gala look was no exception. I loved the subtle mesh detailing of this gown and the fact that it’s a 1992 vintage piece makes it all the more fitting. Anne fully committed to the look, even dying her tresses bright blonde for the occasion. She hit the nail on the head with this look.

1. Jennifer Lopez in Michael Kors
I was so blown away by Jennifer Lopez look last night! The #1 spot for me was pretty close between J. Lo and Anne Hathaway. Lopez looked amazing in a body-hugging Michael Kors gown. I love the pattern and how it coincides with the punk theme and I LOVE her mohawk-inspired hair. She always manages to kill it on the red carpet.
Did I miss anyone? Who were your Met Gala faves?

Fashion Coundown: Golden Globes 2013 Red Carpet

Last night at the 2013 Golden Globe Awards, celebs pranced the red carpet in every style imaginable from mermaid to lacy body-conscious looks. The gowns were to die for. Here are my top 10 picks of the evening:

10. Jessica Alba

I’m a sucker for a sweetheart neckline. I thought Jessica Alba looked really regal in this peach-colored Oscar de la Renta gown. The diamond necklace was a nice touch, but I do wish she had gone with a plum lip for this look. Even a nude lip would’ve been nice. The coral lip is a little strong for this.

9. Thandie Newton

Did anyone else peep Thandie on the red carpet last night? How gorgeous is she in this Giles embellished mini cocktail dress. Love it. I just wish she had sprung for heels in a rich hue, or in all-out diamond glitz like her dress. It’s bold or nothing on the red carpet.

8. Kate Hudson

Kate Hudson was the definition of class in this Alexander McQueen gown with gold embellishment. Tres chic.

7. Rosario Dawson

Rosario Dawson wore a baby blue peplum dress on the carpet, which I thought was unexpected but actually looked quite nice on her. Does anyone have her on preggers watch? Peplum is sometimes an indication that there’s a bun in the oven.

6. Julianne Moore

She slayed in this Tom Ford look last night. Her body looks amazing in it and you just can’t go wrong with black & white.

5.  Emily Blunt

I can’t help but look at her as ‘Emily’ from The Devil Wears Prada movie; an Executive Assistant just trying to make her way to Paris. Loved her in that role! She’s moved on up, and now she’s rocking Michael Kors on the red carpet at the Globes. What an upgrade!

4. Nicole Richie

Nicole was one of the first celebs on the red carpet last night. She showed up in this flowing lace Naeem Khan dress, which I thought was just her speed. I loved her vintage glam waves, which Suave confirmed were achieved using their Morrocan Infusion Styling Oil.

3. Eva Longoria

One of my absolute favorite looks of the night goes to Eva Longoria in Emilio Pucci and Charlotte Olympia heels. I’m already a sucker for lace. But then you add in the sultry thigh-high split and the keyhole? Werk werk werk!

2. Kerry Washington

In my eyes, Kerry Washington can do no wrong. I’ve already declared 2013 the Year of Kerry so it’s only right that she start it off with a red carpet hit like this Miu Miu dress. She’s also rocking Prada shoes, a Prada bag, Chopard jewels, and a vintage Movado watch.

1. Jennifer Lopez

Don’t be fooled by the rocks that she’s got. She’s still Jenny from the block. And she’s still flaunting those killer curves honey. This Zuhair Murad dress hugs them in all the right places. When I saw this look, my jaw dropped. J.Lo kills it every time!

Red Carpet Fashion: Black Girls Rock Awards 2012

Tonight BET Networks premiered the annual Black Girls Rock Awards and in true red-carpet fashion, our favorite females showed their support as well as their impeccable sense of style. Black Girls Rock is always one of my absolute favorite award shows, not just for the fashions but because these celebrities are supporting such an amazing cause. Empowerment of young females of color is so incredibly important so I make it a point to watch and support the show every year. Here are a few of my favorite looks from the red carpet:

Roc Nation songstress Bridget Kelly served it up on the carpet in a body-conscious black dress, statement jewels and her signature blunt bangs (done by celebrity hairstylist Keith Campbell)

Black was definitely the theme of the night. Lala Vasquez-Anthony showed up in a body-hugging Balmain black velvet number, a sophisticated updo and classic Louboutin black pumps.

Marsha Ambrosius was glowing in a fitted black blazer and statement belt, luscious curls, and rhinestone hoops.

Janelle Monae (who’s a new spokesperson for Covergirl) looked amazing in her signature tuxedo “uniform” with a little diamond embellishment.

Taraji P. Henson broke the mold in a glittering gold DVF number. Super classy and well-fitted. Loved it!

Ciara went with an architectural silhouette and slicked back hair. Not gonna lie, I was a little confused by this look, but I’ll let her live.

Meagan Good served a glowing post-wedding glow with tapered layers, a red lip and a full on black ensemble. She rocked a cropped turtleneck top and a flowing maxi skirt.

The hostesses of Black Girls Rock – Tracee Ellis Ross and Regina King pose with performer Keyshia Cole on the red carpet.

Per usual, Tracee Ellis Ross served a fierce face and a luscious head of curls. That berry lip is everything! Definitely doing a “Get The Look” for this one soon.

Who doesn’t LIVE for Kerry Washington? I am here for her. Love this beauty look. She’s giving a sophisticated updo, a red lip and a dainty beaded Marchesa cocktail dress.
