The Perfect Day to Night Makeup with Black Opal + Win A Trip to LA

What do you get when you combine my love for Sanaa Lathan, my quest for the simplest of makeup regimens and my newest obsession with upcoming thriller film “The Perfect Guy”? This here beauty tutorial. I went to see the film just two nights ago and while the story itself was captivating, I spent more time fawning over Sanaa Lathan’s perfect makeup looks. She’s the definition of an effortless beauty. Her character in the film, Leah Vaughn, is a lobbyist with an active love life. As such she regularly transitions from her more corporate daytime look to a sexier evening look for dinners with her love interest(s). I partnered up with Black Opal Cosmetics to do my own take on the “Perfect Day to Night Makeup” inspired by the film. Check it out.

I enlisted the help of one of my favorite MUA’s Sisi Nike to give me the best looks and to show you guys exactly how you can pull off these looks at home.

I purposely kept the products to a minimum to make these looks super easy to recreate, whether you’re running late for your dinner date after work or sitting comfy at home on a weekend. Anyone can do this. Check out what we used to get these looks:

The Perfect Day

Step 1: Black Opal True Color Pore Perfecting Liquid Foundation. So with any look, day or night, you want to start out with a great foundation. What I like about Black Opal is that they specifically formulate shades for brown girls like us so you can find every shade under the sun for your complexion. I like lighter, buildable coverage so liquid foundation is my preference. Sisi used the Black Opal True Color Pore Perfecting Liquid Foundation in Beautiful Bronze as my base, Heavenly Honey as a highlight and a bit of Suede Mocha as a contour for my cheekbones and nose.

Step 2: Black Opal Color Splurge Eyeshadow in Tawny Tease. Sisi used the golden color in the palette to cover my lid and used the deeper brown just to give my eyes some light definition. These duos come in a myriad of colors and their pretty well-pigmented for a soft day look. Will show you how to intensify them in the next look!

Step 3: Black Opal Boldacious Lengths Mascara. My look isn’t complete without a nice coat of mascara. Start the day with just one clean coat. For night, you can throw on another to volumize the lashes even further.

Step 4: Black Opal Color Splurge Luxe Matte Lipsticks. I always have a hard time finding a great nude, but Black Opal’s Luxe Matte Lipstick in In The Buff worked really well. This shade will work for a number of different complexions as well. I love a matte lip because I think it’s really beautiful and it also guarantees less reapplication throughout the day. I won’t lie, at first I was skeptical that this lippie would give me the matte look because it glides on really smooth and it’s moisturizing. But it was true to name and remained matte after application.

The Perfect Day makeup – right?

The Perfect Night

The trick to really taking your day look to nighttime sexy, is by playing up your best assets and intensifying what you already have going on for day.

Step 1: Intensify Lipstick. So since I opted for a nude day lip, I decided to punch it up with a deep red lippe. Sisi used the Black Opal Color Splurge Luxe Matte Lipsticks in Rich Red for my lips.

Step 2: Intensify Eyelids. Sisi used the dark brown color of the Black Opal Color Splurge Eyeshadow in Tawny Tease to give my eye a deeper, more intense look. She layered it on making the eye a little smokier.

Step 3: Smoke it out with liner. Next up she layered on the Black Opal Luxe Crème Liner in Onyx to the rims of my lids and under the eye. It’s a pigment rich gel formula that’s long-wearing and smudge proof.

That’s all folks. Simple, easy and super quick way to switch up your look from office to after-work cocktails. Just be careful who you meet at the bar. He/she might be crazy. (Go see “The Perfect Guy”. Inside joke.)
