Winter is slowly approaching and for most of us that means boots, cozy sweaters and hats. During this time of year hats are crucial to staying warm. However, having a huge fro can sometimes get in the way of that. Although we’d all love to look fabulous and stay warm, doing so can be a real challenge for many of us naturals. Keep reading to learn six ways to wear winter hats with natural hair!
1. The Beanie: This classic hat is perfect for all hair types. It works well with multiple hairstyles from wash & goes to twist outs. This hat is guaranteed to keep you warm and cute!
Tip: always wear a satin bonnet underneath your beanie hat this will prevent your hair from breaking and getting dry.

2. The Baseball Cap: Feeling athletic or just lazy? This a great option for those lazy weekends when you don’t have time to do your hair, but you have to run errands. If your hair is shorter a great alternative to rocking a baseball cap is pulling your hair into two flat twists or a low bun.
3. The Fedora: If you’re into protective styling during the cooler months of the year this hat would be a great option for you. Simply twisting all of your hair and pinning up the back is a great way to protect your hair, while still looking fabulous! After a few days simply release the twists and you have a fresh new style.
4. The Fedora & Up Do: If you don’t like hair hanging in your face another option would be a “Janelle Monae” inspired style. Simply secured the back of your hair up into flat twists and leave out just the front portion. You can style it into a sazzy pompadour or you can do a flat twist for some texture.

5. The Skully Hat : This laid back look is great for girls with longer lengths or ladies who may be rocking a protective style like a weave during the winter.
Christina wears skully caps often during the winter under her extensions as a protective style. See this LBS Chic: Airing The Laundry outift post for more pics. It works great for medium to long length curls.
6. Protective Styling With Any Hat: When your hair is in a protective style like braids or faux locs you can pretty much get away with any of these hats. This is a great way to ensure that your hair is protected from the harsh weather elements.

I love wearing hats in the winter! These are so inspirational! It’s a bit annoying sometimes to make the hat or beanie fit with my big hair 😛
Been there! Lol – I stick to mainly beanies when I wear my hair out. When I have a protective style like extensions or braids then I’ll opt for a baseball cap. Otherwise my head is too big for everything else lol
lol I feel your struggle. I usually stick to two strand twists and just leave the front out.
Great post! Hats are my favorite accessory, so I appreciate these suggestions. Enjoy your weekend, Fatima 🙂

Yes, they are the perfect accessory! & Thank you
I wish we all had the option to wear hats…
Maybe it depends on the kind of hat you’re wearing? Which ones have you tried?
I LOVE beanies, but I look ridiculous in them now that I’m natural. …Winter is coming up. My ears are gonna be COLD y’all.
ear muffs & ear warmers are great options too! idk where you live, but I can’t imagine wearing nothing on the east coast lol
You know what? I don’t have any earmuffs! Idk why I never thought of that!
All the styles are so cute. I will definitely be rocking some of these on my blog this winter 😉
