Nikita of My 12 Month Natural Hair Challenge gives us tips on achieving the perfect “Wash & Go.”. Check it out:
I was failing majorly with Naptural85’s wash ‘n’ go method much to my dismay, but I have found something that seems to work well for me. This wash ‘n’ go method does leave you with wet hair for part of the day so I wouldn’t suggest it for winter, but it does preserve my curl pattern.
Here is a photo of just a regular Wash ‘n’ Go:
1. Wash and condition or co-wash your hair as usual and leave the conditioner in as you detangle.
2. Wash out SOME, but not all of your conditioner. I use what I’m going to call the “splashwater” method where I’ve splashed enough water on my hair and hairline that the white of the conditioner can no longer be seen.
4. Before you go to bed, spray a little water on your hair, place a shower cap (or caps if you have a lot of hair) over your head as well as a scarf to keep it in place and sleep like a baby.
5. In the morning, spray, shake, scrunch and go.
6. When you’re ready, wash the rest of the conditioner out of your hair and do the style of your choosing.
It’s really easy and your curls will be defined. The downside is the wet hair factor. I don’t mind so much because I live in a warmer climate, but not everyone does. This works for summer, but I will keep brainstorming for a dry method with the same definition.
I love wash & gos.

Garnier Fructis makes a great curl sculpting spray that you can put on wet hair to help keep curls defined once they’ve air dried. It works ok on dried hair but you have to play with your hair a little bit more to get the right definition.
I want to try this but my shrinkage is crazy! Does the conditioner you leave in weigh down the hair at all to combat shrinkage?
