So if you follow me on Instagram, I’m sure you saw me mention a few months back that I paid a visit to the Rouge NY salon in NYC. Rouge is New York City’s very first boutique makeup salon aimed at fab girls on-the-go who literally just want their makeup done. It’s like your own personal makeup artist available everyday.
Me before & after my ‘Total Glam’ service at Rouge
When you first walk into the Rouge salon, you feel like you’ve walked into the personal beauty parlor of your rich, celebrity BFF. A very chic and sophisticated, yet warm and inviting ambience accented with touches of red greets you at the door.
The soft leather lounging booth at the front may not draw you in as quickly as the glass table of a thousand red lipsticks. Every last touch is so perfect.
Founders of Rouge, makeup artist Rebecca Perkins and acclaimed actress Stephanie Perch (who plays ADA Alex Cabot) met on set at Law & Order SVU and decided that the relationship they shared as makeup artist & makeup lover should be something every woman gets to experience. Hence, they founded Rouge.
“We wanted to bring the relationship that she and I had while working on Law & Order to everyday women. Most women don’t have someone who can touch them up or make them glam for special occasions. Either you hire someone you know for hundreds of dollars to give you a professional application (if that’s even possible) or you’re subjected to the makeup counter at the department store, where someone is pushing a hard sell. So we saw this hole in the market.” – Rebecca Perkins, co-owner of Rouge
It’s a great location and they have an incredible group of licensed makeup artists at your fingertips, ready to take direction, listen to what you want and interpret that on your face.
Unlike the pushy sales people at the makeup counter, Rouge is all about making YOU feel beautiful. They’re not pushing product or any other hidden agendas in front of that mirror. You’re even invited to bring your own makeup faves if you choose.
“We were very lucky to be first to market with Rouge, but as you can see based on the trends, this is something that women clearly want.” – Rebecca Perkins
What I love about Rouge as well is how accessible it is for makeup lovers in every budget. Their services start at $25 for a simple makeup touchup and go up from there based on the level of service. And guess what brides-to-be? They charge the same price for brides that they do for regular customers! This is incredibly hard to find.
So during my first visit to Rouge, I had a blast and simply asked for my normal neutral-eye-red-lip look. I went in like this:
After their Total Polish servive, I walked out like this:
I decided to head there a second time recently – this time with a makeup inspiration in mind. I picked this look I spotted at the Anna Sui’s Fall 2014 runway show on Joan Smalls (a beautifully highlighted green eye and a bold red lip):

Overall, I had a BLAST at Rouge! My makeup artist really listened to my direction and enhanced my features using the inspiration I gave her.
It is such a dope salon and so innovative for only offering makeup. If you’re in the NYC area, book an appointment ASAP! You won’t regret it.
