LBS Kickin’ It: Curl Fest 2016

This weekend, while Christina was at the LA installment of the #BrownGirlSLoveBrunch, I had the pleasure of attending the annual celebration of confidence, style, and self acceptance that is Curl Fest. Founded by Curly Girl Collective, Curl Fest is an amazing opportunity for the women of the natural hair community to connect with brands, local businesses, and each other at an amazingly over the top picnic in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park.

Missed out? Check out the curls and street style that were on display below!

Curly Girl Collective provided free bubbles and fans for attendees as well as STACKED gift bags full of awesome products provided by the event’s sponsors including Dove, Ouidad and Eden BodyWorks.

Women flew in from as far as France and Brazil for this year’s event eager to spread love the Brooklyn way to the tunes of DJ Kitty Cash.

I even witnessed a group of them spontaneously break out into the electric slide!

Everywhere I went I saw pairs of curl friends soaking up the sun together.

Courtney Danielle of Curls and Couture struck a pose with her friend Kia of Notorious Kia  while showing off her summer ready protective style.  Sidebar: How happy are you that cornrows are back?

The street style was front and center with bold lipstick,  graphic tees, and crop tops popular among the crowd. Maria Antoinette complimented her fro with a pretty pink lip.

Blogger Lei Schuyler keep it simple and cool in denim and white.

Carmen Blakely of Lipstick Fashion Mascara expressed her love for the all mighty coconut oil with this clever shirt.

Printed rompers have become a summer staple.

I got curl envy after seeing these firey coils. This look is the epitome of summer hair!

Former LoveBrownSugar Man Crush Monday, photographer Joe Chea was there capturing crisp images of all the black girl magic on display.

Families were welcome as well. This baby boy showed up with his curls and a smile. Mini blogger Call Me Sparkle was shining in her shimmery romper. It was a truly beautiful day!

I  enjoyed this year’s experience even more than last year and I’m already looking forward to Curl Fest 2017!

Did you attend this year’s curl fest? How was your experience?
