LBS Chic: How To Find The Perfect Jumpsuit

I used to be one of those girls who was completely averse to anything remotely close to a “onesie”, a romper or even worse…a jumpsuit. As someone who has a history of love/hate with certain parts of my body, jumpsuits have never been an attractive or flattering option for me.

The jumpsuit, as a whole, has the potential to truly exaggerate your body flaws IF you opt for a silhouette or material that doesn’t flatter your body. Eventually I came to realize that jumpsuits, rompers and playsuits can be equally as chic on different body types. It’s all about the details. So here are three tips for shopping for the perfect jumpsuit:

This jumpsuit is by far one of my absolute favorites. It’s from Fashion To Figure and I scored it at their end of season sample sale a few months back. I have been LIVING in it all summer. Why? Because it fits my body perfectly.

1. Find The Right Silhouette

The most important thing for every fashionista to know is her body type and what silhouettes work best with it. For example, I have big boobs, a gut that pokes out (thanks #babybrownsugar!), larger arms, round thighs but very slender legs. I’d say I’m right between an Inverted Triangle and an Hourglass shape. As such, I’m always looking for silhouettes that flatter my bust, distract attention from my belly and make my arms and legs look slender.

This one is the perfect jumpsuit for me because it has a v-neckline (always flattering if you have a big bust), has very thin straps (which ultimately makes my arms appear more slender and my shoulders less broad), belts at the waist (bringing attention up and away from my gut to the thinnest part of my midsection) and the bottom portion is slim cut to the ankle (which makes my long legs appear even longer). The cut of your jumpsuit is everything!

2. Fabric Makes A Difference

Girls with curves, you have to be extremely careful not to get a jumpsuit in a fabric that is skin tight. If flattery is the name of the game, you’ll want fabric that has a little give and stretch to it. If you’re going the structured route, make sure you size slightly up so you have room to breathe.

This jumpsuit gives me lots of space where I need it (in the bust and midsection) and is more fitted in the thigh and leg area.

3. Don’t Be Afraid To Tailor

Once you find an amazing jumpsuit, you can really get alot of leverage out of it. I plan on wearing this one straight into the fall with some ankle boots and layers. So if you find one that’s amazing but not quite perfect, don’t be afraid to find a local tailor and get it fitted to work for you. Just a bit of tailoring can go a long way.

Fashion to Figure  has a really great collection of rompers and jumpsuits this season. The three above are great options. Black is classic, leopard print is fun, and you definitely need a long jumper to layer under knits for the colder seasons.
