Fashion week is a time to expect the unexpected. You never do what the day will bring so transitional attire is a must. Of course since not every fashionista has a slim waist and a huge bank account spending and choosing wisely is a must. We’ve put together a list of ten must have items under $100 for the curvy girl looking to keep it cute during the city’s most fashionable season below.
Pleated Skirt
Pleated skirts add polish to any look. Like dresses skirts instantly uplift an outfit and pleats easily prove you put a little extra thought into your outfit. This black option from Torrid ($48.50) would look great with a pretty blouse or a graphic tee.
Asymmetrical Jacket
Layering an asymmetrical jacket over any top is a smart way to add some sharpness to your look. This faux suede option from Missguided Plus ($90.00) looks completely luxe. See how Christina paired hers with a printed shirt here.
A bright handbag
A carryall is a must. How else are you supposed to keep track of notebooks and Nikes? Don’t pretend you never trade your heels in for Airmaxs. This brightly colored one seen below on Christina is a godsend! Available at Fashion to Figure for $48.90 it’s become my new everyday bag and the zippers in front don’t just make it look expensive, they provide extra storage and easy access to items you need but don’t want on display when riding the subway after dark like your phone and your metro card.
High-low Dress
While the difference is less drastic the trend of the high low hem is still around this season. This lovely dress from ASOS Curve ($98.53) is great for a cocktail reception or evening presentation.
Sweaterdress
A sweater dress is a great option for the changing season. It also serves as the perfect solution for quickly switching from day to night. I wore a white V-neck one from H&M + backstage at Public School. The loose shape of this cowl neck option from Simply Be ($57.50) would look great balanced by knee-high boots.
Liquid Lipstick
Liquid lipsticks can survive even the most hectic of days. Layered on top of the right lip moisturizer no amount of sipping, or speaking can crack the spell of these amazing products. My favorite is Stila’s Stay All Day in “Firey” ($24.00). This shade allows me to conduct interviews with confidence.
An Embellished Sweater
While bedazzled outerwear might be slightly outdated there are ways to accent a cute sweater like lace and piping. Going for embroidered over embellished also provides a fun twist.
Oxford Shirt
Take a cue from Ralph Lauren and remember that the white button down is classic for a reason with this shirt from Ava and Viv ($27.99)
Color-Blocked Dress
It’s always great to keep a cute color-blocked dress ($42.90) on deck.
Skinny Jeans
Finding the right fit takes the guess work of getting ready for more casual occasions like the Essence Street Style block party. I rocked a pair ink blue of Fashion to Figure skinnies ($38.90) with a graphic tee from Simply Be to this weekend to celebrate the end of summer Essence Style. I loved how they held their shape – there are few things worse than skinny jeans with saggy ankles.
