5 Ways to Reinvent Your Wardrobe in 2015

Reinvent-your-wardrobe

The cliché “New Year, New Me” is almost inescapable. It’s been plastered all over memes, blogs and social media sites, and is a viable mantra for those who had a horrid 2014. In hopes that 2015 will be brighter and more favorable, we encourage readers to inject pizzazz into their wardrobes. Use these five reinvention tips to escape a fashion (and personal) rut in 2015.

1. Shop at thrift & consignment stores

Thrifting is an art form that we’re well-versed in. See here for our Guide To Thrifting Trends. You can make weekend excursions to local thriftstores and spend less than $100 on bags full of fashionable, chic, designer clothing. Vintage Chanel totes that would retail for $300 in a department store are sold for $20. Trench coats don’t leave dents in your savings accounts. Sounds like a win-win to us.

2. Invest in statement jewelry.

Nothing sells a look more than brazen jewels. Shake up the closet by purchasing attention-drawing cocktail rings, bracelets, necklaces and earrings. Midi-rings or stackable gems that can rest on the knuckle, the base or the tip of the finger, are a fashionable option.

3. Hire a tailor.

Don’t allow the size on the label to deter you. You can have clothes tailored to remove stitches in the sleeves and other confining areas; this gives you enough room to fit different items that fit well in one area and not another. Invest in a tailor in 2015. Tailored clothing seems more polished and professional, and they also give women of size a little wiggle room.

4. Replace neutrals with loud prints and colors.

There’s nothing wrong with piling a wardrobe full of staples. We all need a versatile wardrobe that can be worn in multiple venues. But versatile isn’t the equivalent of drab. Invest in wild prints and daring colors instead of reaching for that go-to black blazer. We prefer to balance our closets with the two-to-one method. Purchase one print for every two neutrals.

5. Get rid of boring footwear.

Purging is an important aspect of any wardrobe reinvention. It’s useless to hold onto clothing that no longer fits, and the same applies to shoes that are no longer in rotation. Ditch old and dated footwear in favor of bold, but recyclable shoes that can be paired with multiple outfits.
