Flavor of Friday: Fashion Week Prep Secrets

Harper’s Bazaar posted this really cute feature on popular fashion bloggers and what their Fashion Week prep secrets are. Well as I’m gearing up for next week’s Mercedes Benz Fashion Week craziness as well, I figured I would give a hand at the Q&A. I may not have been featured, but I still have my secrets to share! Here they are…

Three essentials: My Nikon digital camera, my Blackberry & business cards.

Go-to shoes:  I haven’t found them yet but it looks like the Jeffrey Campbell Litas might be my platform of choice for the week.
Julia Stiles, NYFW FL’10

Biggest fashion week faux pas: Once I bumped into Julia Stiles backstage at a Tracy Reese show. I almost asked her to take a picture of me…until I realized who she was. That would’ve been really bad.Word to the wise (for bloggers, editors and photographers): do a little research about celebs & VIP big names that are brand ‘ambassadors’ of the shows you’re attending. It will come in handy for backstage run-ins and front row interviews.

Fashion Week partner in crime: Oh, I have so many! Last season my mainstay partners-in-crime were Misha of TheFabChick (love that girl, check out her blog) and Jared Lowe of Lowefactor.com (my brother from another mother!). Two bloggers I adore and constantly went to shows and events with. Nothing like a familiar face under the tents.

Custo Barcelona S/S 2011

Most anticipated shows: Custo Barcelona, Betsey Johnson, Christian Siriano and LUBLU by Kira Plastinina. I love girly, fun and fancy-free shows. Fashion Week can get so stuffy sometimes but these shows always give me life.

Who are you looking forward to seeing? All the amazing editors and stylists I admire but never get to see until Fashion Week. People like June Ambrose who I run into every season. Miss Jay Alexander who is always front row at a Custo show. One of my mentors Zandile Blay who has such a hectic schedule I sometimes don’t see her UNTIL fashion week and of course my favorite fashion week celebs like Kelly Rowland, Estelle, Solange and Angela Simmons.

Post-Fashion Week plans: This year, I plan to head to the spa and catch up with friends I haven’t seen since New Year’s. Last season I flew to Puerto Rico right after fashion week. Wish I could do the same this year!

Do you pre-plan your outfits for Fashion Week? Always! I get super flustered if I’m running late to a show because I can’t find the perfect statement necklace to top off an outfit.

Favorite spot for last-minute shopping excursions: Forever21! Super cheap and accessible, I can grab a quick top before an after-party and change up my look without breaking the bank.
