#LBSHealthy Living: I Lost 6 Pounds in One Week on Nutrisystem

nutrisystem-week1

Hey guys! So you can officially consider this my Week 1 update on the Nutrisystem. As I explained in this blog post, I’m on a journey to drop 30 lbs this summer so I can get closer to being eligible to donate a kidney to my Dad. I’ve decided to ditch diets completely and instead focus on a lifestyle change with steady weight loss by healthy eating habits and fitness.

My good friend Lexi of LexiWithTheCurls.com was such an inspiration to me. She started off her personal weight loss journey by using Nutrisystem and told me that it really helped her with portion control and curbing the addiction to carbs. So I reached out to them and they were gracious enough to offer me a free trial of the program to see how it works for me.

Let me tell you something guys – I was a true skeptic at first. In my head I’m like “Meh, those systems never work.” I had all these assumptions in my head that the food would be awful or that it would be such a rigorous program that I’d eventually give up. Not true at all.

I’ve been using the system for a week and have already lost 6 lbs! SINCE LAST MONDAY. Y’all. I hardly write in all caps. I’m so serious.

nutrisystem-fast-five

So the program starts out with one week on their Fast Five kit. It’s basically an accelerated weight loss program that gets you motivated to lose weight by allowing you to lose alot in the first week. They guarantee at least 5 lbs (hence Fast Five) and it requires you to eat food on their system 3 times a day with an additional two protein shakes (mid-morning and afternoon).

I’ll be honest. The first two days I was a little hungry. But I will have to credit that with not eating enough veggies. If you fill up on non-starchy veggies (which you can eat in unlimited quantities on the program) you actually get quite full. So that’s my first tip: Eat Lots of Veggies on Nutrisystem.

My second tip: Select Foods You LIKE and add them to your menu. Since the first month’s foods were selected for me, there were a few items on the menu that I didn’t really care for. Not that they were horrible tasting, just not really my forte. Thankfully this week I start the regular Nutrisystem plan (not the Fast Five) so I have alot more variety. But definitely as you’re choosing the first month of food, select items you would normally like eating so there are no surprises.

So the only real challenges I had on the first week of the program were on days and nights that I had to go out. For example, I spent all day Friday at a photoshoot for People StyleWatch magazine and by default was exposed to on-set foods like sandwiches, pasta salads and cookies (all things I wasn’t supposed to eat on the Nutrisystem). Needless to say, I couldn’t resist my chocolate chip cookie cravings and I consequently ate one (just one! Portion control lol).

So my third tip: Plan Ahead. If you know you will be traveling or away from your foods, plan to bring something portable, like a meal bar or a shake, along with you so you resist cravings from outside foods. Also, Nutrisystem gives you an Eating Out guide with great options for eating at restaurants or elsewhere if you don’t have access to your Nutrisystem meals.

So with that folks – I’m 6 lbs down and proud about it. I’m over here doing the Nae Nae. I will check in with you on Friday to give you some tips that my girl Lexi gave me for being successful on Nutrisytem in our Fitness Friday series. I’ll also share more info with you about how much weight she lost – in case you’re interested in trying it out yourself and you need more proof!

Wish me luck this week!

Disclosure: Nutrisystem is giving me their system for a limited time trial in exchange for blogging about my journey on the system. Though they are sponsoring my trial, all opinions expressed above are my own and not those of the company.
