There are new hair brands popping up every week it seems, especially those geared towards us women with natural hair. Whenever I review a product, I try to give you guys a 360-degree view of the product from the packaging to the ingredients right down to the smell and texture.
Nene’s Secret is the latest collection in my arsenal of products. Sometimes with a collection as vast as this one, with so many product options and variations, it can get really confusing. Which product in the line should I invest in? Should I buy them all? The packaging is cool but what does it look and feel like inside? Trust me, I know your struggle. Here’s a breakdown of the Nene’s Secret collection including my faves & top recommendations:
So above is a picture of what the products look like un-boxed. Only a few of the products like the Curl Creme, the Strengthening Serum Treatment and the Leave-In Conditioner allow you to see the product consistency from the outside, so here’s what each is like on the inside:
Best Beauty Butter, $12.99
This stuff smells amazing upon first opening it. The consistency is very thick, like a butter should be, and its first ingredient is Shea Butter which is a great sign. This is simply an enhanced Shea Butter with Nene’s special recipe of ingredients which included Baobob Extract, Cocoa, Kalahari Melon Seed, Avocado Oil and more. Nothing wrong with some shea butter with a little extra specialness mixed in.
Curly & Cute Curl Creme, $8.99
The Curl Creme works great as a curl refresher and moisturizer. The first ingredient is water, which is important to look for in any moisturizing formula. It also smells pretty good and it’s lightweight – ideal for determining if your hair will absorb it well.
Perfect Pretty Pudding, $8.99
Don’t be mistaken – this is a REAL pudding. I’d almost suggest keeping this product in a cool place to help maintain its consistency. It is very light but obviously thicker in consistency than the creme, which is great for helping with curl elongation. I would replace this product with a styling gel, for example, as it serves the same purpose as a curl styler. They also give you A LOT in this jar for only $8.99.
My Mom’s Hair Masque, $9.99
Ok so this one doesn’t smell as delightful as the others, but it is obvious that this product is for some heavy duty hair repair. This one serves as a nourishing deep conditioner with all natural extracts (that you can visibly SEE in the formula, which is pretty cool). It is very thick, so perfect for dry and coarse curls like mine.
Strengthening Serum Treatment, $9.99
So if you are one of those naturals who only uses all-natural oils for scalp and hair nourishment, this may not be for you. It does have “cones” which I know are sometimes controversial. Even though I’m a heavy coconut oil and olive oil user, I do opt for a great scalp and hair treatment that doesn’t have to be “100% natural” so I’m totally fine with a hair treatment like this one. I also love that it comes in this convenient applicator bottle. It has great natural ingredients and in my opinion silicones are NOT bad for your hair in moderation.
Leave In Conditioner & Detangler, $8.99
This is one of my favorite products in the entire collection. It is super light but still thick enough to do some serious detangling on coarse curls. Like the curl creme the first ingredient is water and it includes Nene’s special recipe of herbs and natural extracts. The main difference is that the leave-in contains hydrolyzed proteins that help with the detangling for coarse textures.
