Some days you jut don’t feel like dealing with the “wash & go” or the twist-out or anything that requires curl control. On lazy days or on those days when you need just a touch of sophistication, here’s a go-to style that requires little effort with chic results. Nikita of My 12 Month Natural Hair Challenge shows us her pin-up tutorial on natural hair sans heat-styling…
At first, this hairstyle concoction that I made reminded me of Padme from Star Wars, but I realized it’s just kind of what I see in my head when I think of black women’s hair in the 1940s and 1950s. Styled, but not too complicated; good for work or play.
Here’s how to do it:
1. Make a part at the fron of your head on whichever side you prefer and then pin down the hair to each side, near your ears, using bobby pins.
2. Split the top half the remaining hair into two and and do a loose flat twist on each side, which you will then bring the ends of together, along with the hair from the very front of your head, and pin down in the center of your head (see below).
I used the barrett from the messy French roll.
I like this style. I would totally rock it! You could definitely dress it up by using hair clips with rhinestones in them.
How much hair do you think you need to have in order to achieve this look? I’m at 5.5 inches
Not at all. It looks too messy for me. Not enough structure and sleekness. But I guess that’s the attraction to this style.
Umm it’s pretty difficult for most naturals to achieve the “sleek” or “structured” look in general unless they straighten. Curls aren’t sleek lol they’re the exact opposite
